Long Term Care homes in Ottawa are starting to revive vaccines for residents. The Perley Rideau started on Tuesday and now St. Pats. This is wonderful news. Retirement home staff in the city have also received their first doses and residents are next. #solvaseniorliving #covidvaccine #LTCOttawa
This is an awesome idea!!
Interesting read about LTC. What are your thoughts?

Thank you #OttawaPublicHealth for the reminder.
Another LTC and retirement home coming to central Ottawa. Schlegel is a good private model and is well received in the GTHA areas. The community will like them.
Hoping that this pilot project being run in the City of Ottawa and Renfrew County will help those waiting so long for a LTC bed. It’s aim is to alleviate stress on the system while also making sure those in need of LTC receive better and fuller in-home care ahead of their move.
It is a start and a positive one. #solvaseniorliving #ontarioltc #moreltcbeds

Happy Halloween!!! Might be a bit different this year but wishing you a safe, spooky and treat filled day nonetheless.
Now is not the time for complacent care!! Families need to keep asking questions, ask to see care plans, and inquiry about delivery about the care services. The senior housing providers should be tracking when services are performed and thus being able to share that with you. https://www.cbc.ca//city-run-long-term-care-repeat-violati

And these people will be better for it! However keep in mind that both these buildings are very old. The infrastructure is old. Ventilation is old and many share accommodations separated by curtains. Proper infection control and quarantine/containment is a must.
So many thanks to our provider partners (Ottawa Retirement Homes) for sharing their feedback regarding working with Solva. It is always so meaningful to hear what others think about not just your working relationship but how they feel we treat our clients. Much love to all our partners. Navigating the pandemic has been difficult for us all, but retirement homes here in Ottawa have been some of the most diligent businesses, very effectively minimizing risk and exposure and going above and beyond to protect their residents and staff. We have seen a huge uptick in those looking to move, even in these times and are proud to have supported ten seniors and their families in August alone find their new home. Planning ahead if you can is a huge part of the 'retireme...nt living' process and we are advocates for looking at options before the need arises. That said, we provide a lot of immediate assistance to those in crisis or urgent need and are here for you whatever your circumstances. Call us today at 613-421-6073 for a no obligation chat about what the future can look like.
We are often asked about the difference between Retirement Homes and Long Term Care facilities. This is a subject we are very familiar with as our founder has a background in both LTC management and Retirement Home Management. With so much in the news about seniors, we thought it might be a good time to write a blog on the differences. Have a read and let us know what you think. Feel free to share :)... https://solvaseniorliving.ca/the-difference-between-retire/

Wonderful tribute!
What our clients are saying.. Navigating the world of retirement residences and long term care is daunting, especially since it usually comes at a time when so many things need to be considered, and quickly. Caroline directed me through these murky waters when I was looking for the best placements for aging friends. She had the answers at her fingertips and it seemed to me that she answered my questions almost before I asked them! She knew costs for services in various homes and the ins and outs of applying for government assistance. Caroline is professional, helpful, warm and caring. I would most certainly recommend Solva Senior Living to anyone who needs help in finding suitable accommodation for themselves or their family members. Berni Conn

Want to give a shout out to our very own Caroline Inman who has been helping so many seniors navigate COVID and Seniors Housing. Caroline always goes above and beyond... this is just another testament to her awesomeness. Dear Caroline, You have been one of the best people I have seen and I have seen a lot through many years of business and working with the government. Everything you did for me was in my favor. You did things behind the scenes to help me and it was much app...reciated. Unbelievable! My moves all went smoothly and you introduced other people to help who were excellent. Thank you again and I extend my best regards. F. Matuk
Seniors on low income are set to receive up to $500 in tax free dollars. The federal government is releasing $2.5bn, with seniors on Old Age Security receiving $300 and those on Guaranteed Income Supplement getting an additional $200. No application is needed. #solvaseniorliving #taxfreepayments #supportingseniors
We can expect this to pass and be here for the short-medium term future.
A very Happy Canada Day to all. Stay safe and healthy
Congratulations and happiest birthdays ever! Looking fabulous ladies!!

ZERO - the number of new Covid cases in Ottawa today (has not been zero since March) ZERO - the number of deaths reported in Ottawa today. It has been desperately hard for so many people. It has changed lives and attitudes, but what we’re doing; what we’re all doing, is working. ... Retirement homes in the area are also starting to loosen restrictions, in accordance with the Ministry of Health. Visiting is being allowed again and those who move in aren’t needing to be kept in 14 day isolation*. We’re not out of the proverbial woods just yet. Diligence, distancing, masks, hand sanitizing is all just as important as it was two months ago. But there is a glimmer of life getting back to a new normal. Stay safe! Stay informed! *will have to have to have a Covid test and how negative 24hrs prior to move in
Way to go Long Sault!

Christine will be speaking in Cornwall and area.
Interesting reporting. LTC standards are way different now. The Ministry categorizes homes a Class A, B, C, D buildings. With one-third being over 45 years old they would be considered C & D buildings. This would include older ventilation systems, basic ward rooms with 3-4 in a room (with curtains). All of which makes infection control very difficult.

June is Seniors Month and this year the theme is 'stay safe; stay in touch'. A great chat with my friend Bernie who is a local caregiver to his wife here in Ottawa. We touch on some of the challenges but also what life is like during Covid-19.
After that scathing report on LTC yesterday Caroline and Christine wanted to chat more about the differences between LTC and Retirement Homes. Have a list to our fist ever podcast :) Share if you have anyone who might be interested.
