What to Do When Stopped by the Police 1. Make sure your vehicle registration and insurance slip are in an easily accessible place in your vehicle. You should be able to produce it within a few seconds of the police officer requesting it. 2. Once you see the flashing lights behind you, turn on your hazard lights, slow down your speed and safely pull over to the right hand side of the road. Turning on your hazard lights will notify the police officer that you have acknowledged... you are being pulled over and that your are trying to stop. 3. Remain calm 4. Be Polite 5. Put both hands on the steering wheel where the officer can see them. 5. You MUST show your drivers licence, ownership for the vehicle and insurance, you must always identify yourself. 6. DON'T LIE about anything especially your name. This will make the situation worse and could result in a criminal charge of Obstruction of Police Officer. 7. If the police insist that you answer any questions don't answer anything that may incriminate yourself 8. If you're asked to provide a roadside breath test YOU MUST comply, even if you know you didn't have any alcohol to drink. Failure to do so, will result in a criminal charge for Refusing Breath Sample. 9. Do NOT be argumentative with the police officer 10. NEVER ADMIT GUILT. Police officers can use anything you say against you in court. See more

Ask the (X)Traffic Cop. Can I drive in bare feet? Is it against the Law? Yes you can. There is no specific law in the Ontario Highway Traffic Act that says you have to wear shoes while driving. You can drive in bare feet if you want. What the Highway Traffic Act does say is that you have to drive with due care and attention to your driving meaning you should be able to operate the brake and gas pedal at all times properly. ... If you think that having bare feet will affect how you operate your vehicle then I suggest you wear shoes, but its not a requirement in law.
Five (5) Ways to Avoid a Traffic Ticket 1. Keep your speed within 10-15km of the speed limit. Most officers give a grace of 10 to 15km before they stop you for speeding. 2. If you know you're speeding, try not to be the first car. When the police do speed enforcement it's usually the first vehicle in a line of traffic that gets stopped. Don't be the lead vehicle.... 3. Wear your seat belt, Seat belt tickets are 2 points and a 260 dollar fine. People in accidents DO get ejected and hurt when they don't wear a seat belt. Wear the belt, protect yourself and avoid the traffic ticket. 4. Make sure your updated insurance and ownership are in the car where you can find them. Every year thousands of tickets are issued for Fail to Surrender Insurance and Fail to Surrender Permit. 5. In bad weather slow down, leave more space between the vehicle in front of you. 90% of accidents and careless driving tickets come from driving to fast or too closely in bad weather. A car takes longer to stop on wet roads.
