Our House Addiction Recovery Centre 18.10.2020

The Great Canadian Giving Challenge is here and we're taking part! Happening all of June, every dollar you donate to Our House Addiction Recovery Centre qualifies us to win $20,000. The more you give, the more chances for us to win! Complete a donation at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/gcgc/39015 to help us win the grand prize! #GivingChallengeCA "What impact would $20,000 have on your organization?"... A gift of $20,000 will go directly to your Outreach Community Counselor. This is not a funded position for Our House, but plays a very impactful role in the community. This position goes out into the community to do a wide range of counselling work with people suffering the effects of addiction. We do not limit this definition to only the person suffering directly from the addiction but also the family and friends that are caught on the periphery of the addiction. We also use this roll to work with past clients that are in need of some one on one time. We offer this service free to anyone in need. We also offer counselling to the family members of clients prior to the client's completion of our program and the return to their homes. This helps everyone involved to succeed and to have someone they can turn to for counselling, guidance, and after care. Studies have shown that the success rate of recovery for addicts increases when the family is working together. Being able to offer this specialized service to our community, at no cost, creates a better informed public. This results in removing the stigma of addiction in the community and the fear of seeking help. It also helps the family members and friends that suffer in silence. It will provide a place for them to go and get the help that they need. Thus taking the strain off of acute mental health care that is required when issues aren’t dealt with in a timely manner.

COVID-19 UPDATE March 25, 2020 Hi everyone,... Due to the dynamics of the current global pandemic, Our House Addiction Recovery Centre has made the difficult decision to cease the intake of new clients at this time. We are working closely with Alberta Health Services and our Medical Director to ensure that we are doing everything necessary to keep our clients and staff safe. At this time, clients are not permitted to leave on overnight passes, or go into the community unless approved by our Executive Director and for essentials only. We are not permitting visitors or meetings to occur currently. We are only allowing essential service contractors on site. We have multiple staff self-isolating or at home due to having young children. All staff have been set up to be able to work from home and do counseling sessions either on the phone or through Skype. Please, please reach out if you are struggling. Though we need to be physically distant from each other currently, connecting socially is important. Please call, text, Facebook, or facetime with any of us. We are all here to help each other get through this difficult time. We care deeply about our community and are doing everything within our means to assist in flattening the curve. Stay healthy! Sincerely, The Our House Team

We had a visit from the Honorable Jason Luan, Associate Minister of Health, Mental Health and Addiction on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. It was our pleasure to host him, his Chief of Staff Marshall K. Smith and Ministerial Assistant Eric Engler. They spent a couple hours on site, touring our facility, listening the problems we face and about the work we do, but most importantly taking the time to talk with Our House clients. It was a wonderful visit and all three of these men were kind and truly engaged in the work we do.
