September 27, 2020 - 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time Do nothing out of selfishness; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves (Philippians 2:3) Pride and ego are hard things to control. We see how others act or dress and think we are superior to them. We idolize our own self-image. But, if we truly believe everything is a gift from God, we recognize all the people that God has put in our lives as gifts! We are grateful for how they enrich our lives. Pray every day for the people in your life: your family, your friends, and those who make you angry.

We are so happy to be back to celebrating Mass together each week! Our focus is to continue to follow Saskatchewan Health guidelines and so we are cleaning and sanitizing after each service. We would love a few extra helping hands! If you would be willing to volunteer after any of the weekend Masses or after Wednesday morning Mass please give us a call at the Parish Office 306 745-3315.

This evening, we start our celebration of CORPUS CHRISTI, the feast of Most Sacred Body and Blood of Christ. Thank you for having been joining me for live-strea...med Services all the past weeks. To our joy, this weekend Holy Masses with congregation will resume. I ask you everybody who needs to stay home for more weekends, to please tune up with different channels broadcasting Holy Eucharist. Holy Mass in our parish will not be live-streamed for now. Our little reflection is in one sentence, three pictures and one super short video: The Blessed Sacrament is Jesus, humbly, graciously and lovingly present among us. First reading Deuteronomy 8:2-3,14-16 He fed you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known Moses said to the people: Remember how the Lord your God led you for forty years in the wilderness, to humble you, to test you and know your inmost heart whether you would keep his commandments or not. He humbled you, he made you feel hunger, he fed you with manna which neither you nor your fathers had known, to make you understand that man does not live on bread alone but that man lives on everything that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Do not become proud of heart. Do not forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery: who guided you through this vast and dreadful wilderness, a land of fiery serpents, scorpions, thirst; who in this waterless place brought you water from the hardest rock; who in this wilderness fed you with manna that your fathers had not known. Responsorial Psalm Psalm 147 O praise the Lord, Jerusalem! or Alleluia! O praise the Lord, Jerusalem! Zion, praise your God! He has strengthened the bars of your gates he has blessed the children within you. O praise the Lord, Jerusalem! or Alleluia! He established peace on your borders, he feeds you with finest wheat. He sends out his word to the earth and swiftly runs his command. O praise the Lord, Jerusalem! or Alleluia! He makes his word known to Jacob, to Israel his laws and decrees. He has not dealt thus with other nations; he has not taught them his decrees. O praise the Lord, Jerusalem! or Alleluia! Second reading 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 That there is only one loaf means that, though we are many, we form one body The blessing-cup that we bless is a communion with the blood of Christ, and the bread that we break is a communion with the body of Christ. The fact that there is only one loaf means that, though there are many of us, we form a single body because we all have a share in this one loaf. Alleluia, alleluia! I am the living bread which has come down from heaven, says the Lord. Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever. Alleluia! Gospel John 6:51-58 My flesh is real food and my blood is real drink Jesus said to the crowd: I am the living bread which has come down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, for the life of the world. Then the Jews started arguing with one another: How can this man give us his flesh to eat? they said. Jesus replied: I tell you most solemnly, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you will not have life in you. Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life, and I shall raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in him. As I, who am sent by the living Father, myself draw life from the Father, so whoever eats me will draw life from me. This is the bread come down from heaven; not like the bread our ancestors ate: they are dead, but anyone who eats this bread will live for ever.

O God Beyond All Praising ~ This song has meant so much to me, both in times of joy and in difficult moments. I initially produced this for YouTube back in Febr...uary but never got around to sharing the video directly here. Hope you enjoy! Then hear, O gracious Savior, accept the love we bring, that we who know your favor may serve you as our king; and whether our tomorrows be filled with good or ill, we'll triumph through our sorrows and rise to bless you still: to marvel at your beauty and glory in your ways, and make a joyful duty our sacrifice of praise!

Today we celebrate the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua. I Google-searched about one interesting thing about this Saint: The popular depiction highlights a uniqu...e mystical experience Anthony had during his life. Next to St. Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Anthony of Padua is the saint who is most often depicted in statues or images holding the Child Jesus. Why is that? The tradition honors a mystical experience St. Anthony had during his life that was witnessed by a benefactor who gave the Franciscan saint a place to stay for the night. One version of the story is narrated in The Life of St. Anthony published in 1895: While traveling through Limoges a pious benefactor gave [St. Anthony] lodging, and assigned him a room separated from the others. It was night when the owner, either by chance or on purpose, passed near the room of the saint, and he observed that rays of unusual light came through the cracks of the door. He was curious to know the reason of that light, and approached the door very slowly. He saw Anthony kneeling, as if in ecstasy, and, full of wonder, admiring and caressing a loving child of rare beauty, who was tenderly embracing the saint. Then the man knew, from the affectionate conversation, and from the superhuman beauty, that it was Jesus Christ who, under the appearance of a loving child, was pleased to visit His faithful servant and fill him with His ineffable consolation. 1 Kings 19.16b, 19-21 The Lord said to Elijah, You shall anoint Elisha son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah as prophet in your place. So Elijah set out from there, and found Elisha son of Shaphat, who was ploughing. There were twelve yoke of oxen ahead of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle over him. Elisha left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you. Then Elijah said to him, Go back again; for what have I done to you? Elisha returned from following him, took the yoke of oxen, and slaughtered them; using the equipment from the oxen, he boiled their flesh, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then Elisha set out and followed Elijah, and became his servant. Psalm 16 Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the Lord, You are my Lord; The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. R. I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I keep the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. R. Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices; my body also rests secure. For you do not give me up to Sheol, or let your faithful one see the Pit. R. Matthew 5.33-37 Jesus said to his disciples: You have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, You shall not swear falsely, but carry out the vows you have made to the Lord. But I say to you: Do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. Let your word be Yes, if Yes or No, if No; anything more than this comes from the evil one.

Music Monday: Lord of Creation, To You Be All Praise The tune and the words of this song are so profound. Its why I had this during my ordination. Lord of crea...tion, to you be all praise! Most mighty your working, most wondrous your ways! Your glory and might are beyond us to tell, and yet in the heart of the humble you dwell. Lord of all power, I give you my will, in joyful obedience your tasks to fulfill. Your bondage is freedom, your service is song; and, held in your keeping, my weakness is strong. Lord of all wisdom, I give you my mind, rich truth that surpasses man's knowledge to find. What eye has not seen and what ear has not heard is taught by your Spirit and shines from your Word. Lord of all bounty, I give you my heart; I praise and adore you for all you impart; your love to inspire me, your counsel to guide, your presence to cheer me, whatever betide. Lord of all being, I give you my all; if ever I disown you, I stumble and fall; but, sworn in glad service your word to obey, I walk in your freedom to the end of the way.

First Thursday of the month, we pray for new vocations, for good priests; priests that would always "Remember Jesus and his Gospel", priests that would always b...e faithful and hold fast to Him, priests that would do themselves and encourage others: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. Remembering our reflection from a couple of days ago: We can love our God with all our heart because he first loved us with all his heart. "I will give you shepherds according to my heart". First reading 2 Timothy 2:8-15 Remember the Good News that I carry, Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David; it is on account of this that I have my own hardships to bear, even to being chained like a criminal but they cannot chain up Gods news. So I bear it all for the sake of those who are chosen, so that in the end they may have the salvation that is in Christ Jesus and the eternal glory that comes with it. Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shall live with him. If we hold firm, then we shall reign with him. If we disown him, then he will disown us. We may be unfaithful, but he is always faithful, for he cannot disown his own self. Remind them of this; and tell them in the name of God that there is to be no wrangling about words: all that this ever achieves is the destruction of those who are listening. Do all you can to present yourself in front of God as a man who has come through his trials, and a man who has no cause to be ashamed of his lifes work and has kept a straight course with the message of the truth. Responsorial Psalm Psalm 24(25) Lord, make me know your ways. Lord, make me know your ways. Lord, teach me your paths. Make me walk in your truth, and teach me: for you are God my saviour. Lord, make me know your ways. In you I hope all day long The Lord is good and upright. He shows the path to those who stray, He guides the humble in the right path, He teaches his way to the poor. Lord, make me know your ways. His ways are faithfulness and love for those who keep his covenant and law. The Lords friendship is for those who revere him; to them he reveals his covenant. Lord, make me know your ways. Alleluia, alleluia! Our Saviour Jesus Christ abolished death and he has proclaimed life through the Good News. Alleluia! Gospel Mark 12:28-34 'You are not far from the kingdom of God' One of the scribes came up to Jesus and put a question to him, Which is the first of all the commandments? Jesus replied, This is the first: Listen, Israel, the Lord our God is the one Lord, and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these. The scribe said to him, Well spoken, Master; what you have said is true: that he is one and there is no other. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and strength, and to love your neighbour as yourself, this is far more important than any holocaust or sacrifice. Jesus, seeing how wisely he had spoken, said, You are not far from the kingdom of God. And after that no one dared to question him any more.

Happy Pentecost Sunday Everyone, Here is part of the celebration we would do in the atrium with all the children (all age groups together) to celebrate the Feast of the Holy Spirit. Parents from the atrium, I hope you can share with your kids, however, whether or not you have children in the Good Shepherd program, I hope you can watch and enjoy. The Pentecost Celebration would usually end our year in the Atrium. I hope you all have a great summer, and by the grace of God we ...can be together again in the Atrium this fall! Blessings, Vicky Maga (Sorry this is in 2 videos, we had a technical issue with the lighter ) (please see part 2 below as Facebook won't let me upload 2 together!)

Dear Parishioners, On the evening of May 26th, 2020, the Our Lady of Victories Parish Council met to discuss the opportunity to celebrate Mass as soon as this weekend, May 30th, 2020. The current restrictions say that only 10 people are able to gather. Our top priority is to make sure that no parishioner feels left out so after in-depth discussion we decided to wait until more of our church family can be together in our parish home. Can we humbly ask for your patience? Our f...eeling is that the best idea for us all is to wait together for the opening of the church for larger numbers. The tentative date for changes is June 8th, 2020 and we will update you once we have more information. With a hope of the number increasing as restrictions are lifted we will spend the time over the next few weeks getting prepared, gathering the appropriate sanitizing products as well as preparing the church in the way that is required by the directives of the Archdiocese in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Our return to normal gatherings may happen gradually. Some stage of the re-opening may require spreading the congregation between the weekday and weekend Masses, it would help us make arrangements if you could get back to us as to whether you could attend a weekday Mass or only weekend Mass. Also please let us know how many people from your household will be attending Mass. We appreciate all your help and consideration as we come back together. With this information and any other questions please contact the parish office 306 745-3315 leave a message on our answering machine or email us at [email protected].
