One year ago. You were just beginning to make your appearance known. And while so much has changed since then, so much remains the same. I still carry you with me everywhere I go. You no longer take up all the room in my belly but you hold all of the space in my heart.

Dear mama: your birth is not going to go as planned. Despite all of the prenatal yoga you did, the books on natural birthing techniques you read, and the empowering mantras you repeated in your head. But youand your babyare going to be okay. Remember this when they tell you the fetal heat rate is dropping. Remember it when the words emergency c-section escape their lips. Remember it as they wheel your terrified and shaking body into the operating room.... Remember this when you and your husband are drowning in silence as you wait for that first cry. "Here is the thing: parents today are exhausted. We are drained. We are trying to do it all. We work long hours and our work day doesn’t always end when we leave the office.
