The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario is pleased to announce that the registration for the Virtual Summer Learning Program, for Kindergarten to Grade 8 students, is now open. This program is intended to close the learning gap for students in literacy and numeracy. As program availability is limited, registrations are processed on a first come first serve basis. The program will run from July 5, 2021-July 23, 2021. Each day, students will connect with a teacher... for scheduled blocks of both synchronous and asynchronous learning. While Literacy and Numeracy are the two key areas of focus, educators will also have activities that include coding, Indigenous education, virtual field trips, as well as outdoor education opportunities. The registration deadline for this program is May 14, 2021. Students who are currently enrolled in Kindergarten to Grade 8 are invited to register. To register, please visit: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx.

Mental Health Week is an opportunity to promote mental health and well-being across our system. The concurrent celebration of Catholic Education Week and Mental Health Week in May, reinforces the correlation between practicing faith and positive mental health. Today is Meditation Monday and we invite members of our Catholic community to participate in Christian meditation. Christian meditation is an ancient Christian practice and a form of silent prayer. When we pray throu...gh Christian meditation, we think about God’s presence. When we pray silently, we are talking to Jesus with our hearts. With practice, mindfulness and other meditative practices can allow the development of clarity in thoughts and feelings, decrease negative thoughts, and promote a sense of peacefulness and centeredness. The CDSBEO Religious and Family Life Education Department suggests this Christian meditation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1wDr9X-0Uo #CEW2021 #NurturingHope
Today is the first day of Mental Health Week. The theme of this year's Mental Health Week is understanding our emotions. Recognizing, labeling and accepting our... feelings are all part of protecting and promoting good mental health for everyone. Naming, expressing and dealing with emotions - even when they’re uncomfortable - can make us feel better. Need support? The grade 7 and 8 students have signed up for the ‘Zero to Planet Hero’ challenge of 2021. We talked about our New Year Resolutions and decided to learn more about what we can do to help shape a healthier planet. The students have signed up for the following challenges. Each week, they will learn simple but effective ways to help protect our planet. They will be working in groups to share their findings with each other (and hopefully with our FB page). They are all very excited to help shape 2021 in a positive way.
FYI Cogeco is experiencing some internet outages today. These outages may affect connectivity, including access to Teams and D2L.

Today, the grade 8 class is taking advantage of the beautiful weather with some math review stations set up at socially distanced intervals.
At Our Lady, our Grade 8 class are discovering new opportunities to learn while keeping a social distance. Starting off outside in a big circle, we begin our non fiction book study on discovering self, students took turns reading aloud and then we broke off into small group readings. We are enjoying this beautiful Fall weather!

Our students are very blessed to have men in their lives who love and support them. Here are a few of our Stinger dads who were celebrated this past Fathers Day weekend.

Our Lady staff and students could not be more proud of this outstanding group of future leaders. They are leaving behind a legacy at Our Lady thanks to their kind hearts, positive energy and helpful nature. Your Stinger family has no doubt you will conquer what...ever you put your minds to while continuing to support and look out for each other. Congratulations Class of 2020!

Our very own Savannah is a recipient of the Bravo Breakfast award. We are so blessed to have such a special young lady at our school and in our community. Your Stinger Family could not be more proud of you and everything you stand for. Congratulations!! Savannah lives out our CDSBEO Theme Joy Springs from a Loving Heart daily in her life as she consistently displays empathy for others and creates Holy Moments. Savannah is a great ambassador for Our Lady of Good Couns...el Catholic School. Savannah is a Grade 8 student whose disposition is cheerful and happy all day long! Savannah is always willing to lend a helping hand. She makes all feel welcome and shows empathy in everything she says or every activity that she completes. Savannah enjoys drawing, music, baking and cooking. She also enjoys hanging out with her friends. Savannah helps to receive, stack and deliver milk each day to our classrooms. She is a bus monitor and helps our students with special needs each day. Savannah is part of our recycling team who empties and sorts blue boxes. Savannahs positive growth mindset is witnessed at school by staff and students each day. She offers to help make each day better in her own pleasant and caring manner. Savannah is vigilant in helping to solve a problem or issue of concern within the school by offering countless solutions with a positive outlook. She thinks of and offers empathetic solutions that her peers respect. Savannahs sincerity and faith carries into the community as well.
