Visiting a little hole in the wall, nature edition.

Swallowtail Lighthouse was spectacular and stands out as one of our favourite places we’ve explored since moving to NB. We can’t wait to plan a trip back during the summer months so we can do some island camping and visit more of the local businesses on Grand Manan. Our fingers are crossed that we’ll be able to venture into NS and Cape Breton this summer but in case our sweet Atlantic Bubble doesn’t cooperate - there is endless exploring and adventures right here in our own province.

Today we are doing something a little different! For anyone who has been following us for a while, you'll know that Madeline is generally the one who keeps this page running. In the past few months though, a lot has changed in our schedules (Madeline has a new job that is keeping her extra busy) and with it the time we have to keep up on social media! All that means that I (Mitchell) am going to help keep you up to date on what has been going on.. With spring ramping up, s...o are our outdoor plans! This year, with the help of lovely Julie from @grandfordgardens, we will be building our very own vegetable and flower garden! The plan is to have plenty of raised beds stocked with all of the leafy greens, root vegetables, beans, tomatoes, and wildflowers that we can eat throughout the summer (and with some planning and canning, maybe through the winter as well!). Right now the plan for the garden has been decided and the layout has been marked - and measured - out! If you are a green thumb, or a plant parent, stay tuned for more garden updates in the coming weeks!

Dreaming of the Atlantic bubble, HBU?

Hi! We still exist! We’re still alive!! We’ve just been busy living life!! In the last month, we BOTH started new jobs and we’ve been had to take a step back from being online every day to make sure we have enough time for each other, a semi human sleep schedule and of course, play sessions with June (who probably secretly loves that her humans are constantly at their desks and available to distribute treats).. We know our little community here understands that real life ...comes first but we feel we owe it to ya to disclose why we’ve been a little MIA around here! You might remember that Mitchell quit his job out of Toronto in early Jan, and he’s since been SUPER BUSY taking on engineering contracts under his own incorporation: Mitchell Kingsley Consulting! Woo! I also recently left my job out of Toronto and started a new role in social media for a local cannabis company! Outside my 9-5, my evenings are filled with my @madelinetaylor creative endeavours which I feel so exceptionally excited about because in just three months after launching I’m already wait listing for June! Needless to say, we’ve been living life in the moment, focusing on our careers and that’s been why you’ve noticed less content here. Of course, with spring in full swing, we’ve got lots of gardening, cabin building and outdoor plans in the works so our absence will be short lived. We came to NB without much of a game plan and in the process, built a beautiful new life that you guys have witnessed change and grow. Thanks for sticking by us even when we take breaks to catch up on life stuff. We miss our chats and can’t wait to be back posting regularly soon. In the meantime, please enjoy this glowy photo of @marcp506 on the edge of Grand Manan!

Are you supporting local this holiday season? We sure are! We have already found so many beautiful and unique gifts for loved ones - and this year, we are makers ourselves! Madeline has been illustrating homemade greeting cards for friends and family since childhood and she's selling a limited Christmas card series this month! These cards are printed locally on sustainably sourced paper and are available in our shop now! https://outpostcabins.ca/shop

Loved these planked portions of the cliff-side trail at Irving Nature Park! We are in the thick of building our first tiny cabin (available for rental in Spring 2021 ) and this trail design is giving us some serious work-site inspo right now: all the November rain we’ve had has turned our tiny cabin job site into mud madness! In some spots the mud is dangerously deep enough to approach the tops of my boots! The little kid in me KINDA likes the squish but the adult h...uman who wants to finish the framing is thinking something like this would help A LOT. There’s always a project around here, and once we get started on one, we can pretty much always think of five more! Never a dull moment (or dry boots, these days) at the cabin.
