Repost from @steel_snorkel: At one time I thought Vancouver Island Brown trout were something rarely caught, and when I first started to fish for them myself my... catches were very, very few.It took coming to the realization that these fish are not like Rainbows and Cutthroats. They have different needs. Their broad fins mean they can hold in certain waters our native trout can't. A prime lie for a brown trout is much different than that of a Rainbow. With experience I can now successfully target Browns, now if only I could find a big one! When fishing Browns on streams with established populations of local trout, keep note of where fish are caught and the structure they were relating to. A pattern will emerge and soon spots will become very distinctive. I end up with some super stunned looks on my face when taking solo pictures, I forget about the camera and ooh and awe a lot at the fish. I find it amusing. .
