C’MON OUT TO THAT BIG GAY 90s SHOW Friday Night at Black Pirates Pub (please share) Thunder Bay, ON WERQ presents That Big Gay 90s Show, Friday, March 27 at Black Pirates Pub (215 Red River Road). The night aims to offer the people of Thunder Bay the modern gay / lifestyles friendly bar experience in a fun and safe space where people can be who they want to be without the fear of judgment or persecution. The night will feature The Pussy Posse, made up of DJs Miss Temperance... and Jaqi Iraqi along with drag performances from former Queen of the North, Miss Lily Tremayne and Wig Wars 2013 Champion and reigning Mr Gay Pride Thunder Bay, Mr Ivan Love. Hosting the night will be Fancy Nancy Freeborn of the Motown/funk/rock band, Morning Light. If you visit Thunder Bay’s entertainment district (Red River Rd / Court St / Cumberland Ave) you’ll find something for everyone. Stratch that. You’ll find something for almost everyone. Thunder Bay hasn’t had a gay bar since the days of the Voodoo Lounge over 10 years ago. While many of the current downtown venues are supporters and very welcoming of the LGBTQ+ community, Thunder Bay lacks a place where they can call home. Promoter / event organizer, Jimmy Wiggins has joined forces with Linzee Martin of the Sugar Shakedown crew to create WERQ, an organization that aims to bring a little more colour to the nightclub scene. Wiggins and Martin want to create a place, even for just one night at a time, where everyone and anyone (gay, straight and everything in between and all around) can go out dancing and be entertained without having to hide who they are. They’ve started work on a series of themed events that will do just that. We want the people of Thunder Bay to have a safe space to be able to go out, let loose and have a good time without worrying about what people might think, explains Wiggins, these shows aren’t just for the LGBTQ+ community. We’re inviting everyone and anyone to come out, see a show, dance a little and just have fun together. Rather than using the conventional formula for drag events that Thunder Bay has seen over the years, WERQ want to add other elements to round out these shows. "It will be a variety show of colourful proportions, explains Martin, and the music will always be tight!" Doors at 10pm, show at 11pm. Cover is $5. Age of majority required. SPRING BREAKDOWN Thursday Night at Black Pirates Pub (please share) Thunder Bay, ON - Wiggins Productions presents Spring Breakdown: All Ages Showcase, Thursday, March 19th at Black Pirates Pub (215 Red River Road). The night will feature headlining act, Forever Dead! (punk rock n’ roll) along with special guests The Green Mind (garage rock), Page 38 (hard rock) and the debut performance from the newest band to hit the TBay music scene, Soapboxer (indie rock).... Since 2005, Forever Dead! have released two full-length albums, a hand full of EP’s, and endured long hours down lonely highways. In the years since forming, the band has hit roadblocks, dead ends and has undergone a few personality changes, but now stands on solid ground with Chelsea Heart (vocals), George Gratz (bass), Gratzo (guitar), and Tyler T. Destroyer (drums). A powerful and energetic presence with a cocktail of influences from punk, rock, psychobilly, ska and just about any other genre. BLOOD, SWEAT, AND BEERS Saturday Night at Black Pirates Pub please share Thunder Bay, ON As part of their upcoming Canadian tour, Toronto based metal band, Exes For Eyes will be making a stop in Thunder Bay on Saturday, March 14th at Black Pirates Pub (215 Red River Road). The night will feature local support from Tapout band (hardcore), Caught in the Crossfire (metal) as well as a special Cover Show Encore performance from Whargoul as they perform in full costume as one of... the most notorious metal bands of all time, GWAR. EXES FOR EYES is a project born of an overwhelming amount of mutual respect and admiration between two men. A respect for one another's work ethic, musical proficiency, stylistic taste and of course, for each other as people. The concept of blindness, be it willing, involuntary, inherent or otherwise is so foreign and far removed from anything within the realm of experience for these men. However as the process has begun to create this music, it has become apparent how limited one's own vision can be when staring at the broad side of limitless potential and ambition. With the musical vision of Dave Sheldon (ex Man With Target, Annihilator) and the lyrical conception of vocalist and frontman Big James (Endast, Authors) the project is very quickly taking shape into something more than either anticipated. The hope is to see the world of metal in a new light, with Exes For Eyes. Exes For Eyes are also credited with pioneering The Platinum Project - an endeavor never seen before in the music industry where a band aims to go platinum (selling 1 million records) at $1 per unit as an experimental new business model for independent artists.
