((( is anybody out there? ))) announcing programsound.fm, a digital community radio project, along with a call for submissions! ... when the pandemic began and all the theatres closed, creator bahia watson approached us with an idea for a community radio station that would allow theatremakers to keep making theatre. so what is programsound.fm? it’s a new internet radio station for storytellers. instead of an analog frequency dial, the stream of sound comes through an audio player on a website. we got support from the canada council’s digital strategies fund to consult with artists across turtle island and create an experiment: a day-in-the-life digital radio broadcast of programsound.fm the hope is that this radio station can become a permanent platform for creativity and connection. call and response has its roots in african music and is a pattern of democratic participation. in july 2021 we’re broadcasting a programsound.fm pilot to test this storytelling radio station idea, and we’d love for you to participate! this is a call. we would love to hear your response. deadline for submissions: tuesday may 25th ! LISTEN to the teaser: soundcloud.com/outsidethemarch/programsound READ the full call for submissions: outsidethemarch.ca/the-experiences/programsound LISTEN to the full call for submissions: soundcloud.com/programsoundfm/psfm-call-for-submissions image: program sound's logo created by bahia watson. A large, stylized old-timey radio dial is illuminated on the back wall of a colourful room. there are electrical cords and equipment on the ground: perhaps it is some kind of performance studio. Another Season-in-Process update this week: Playwright Norman Yeung joins OtM as playwright-in-residence with support from The Ontario Arts Council! Yeung will be working with Company Dramaturg Jeff Ho and Artistic Director Mitchell Cushman on "Eunuch vs. Pirate", a new immersive play spanning continents and centuries. --> A dying Chinese almost-billionaire goes on a journey to reconcile with his Canadian tech-wiz daughter, with the meddling of a 15th Century eunuch and 18th... Century pirate. Eunuch v. Pirate is a father-daughter tragicomedy invigorated by hints of the absurd and the meta. <-- "I’m examining a cultural pride that the Chinese have held precious for millennia. What is the fragility at the core? My impetus to write this is anti-Chinese abuse during this pandemic. By showing nuances of Chinese behaviour, I’m sharing our humanity. I’m honoured to collaborate with Mitchell, Jeff, and Outside the March, artists whose work I admire deeply. I’m grateful to Ontario Arts Council for supporting this residency."
