In this special edition of Art At Home Live, Christina Jones, Family Programs Coordinator, will be joined by Keilah Lukenbill-Williams and Catherine Louis from ...UNYA - Urban Native Youth Association’s Overly Creative Minds Program. Together, they will explore the artwork and impact of renowned Coast Salish artist Susan Point. Susan Point is a contemporary artist of Musqueam heritage who combines her Coast Salish cultural knowledge with her own unique vision. Point’s work serves to remind all who live on the unceded ancestral territory of the xmkym (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and slililwta (Tsleil-Waututh) nations of the knowledge that has existed on this land for thousands of years. Taking inspiration from the theme of interconnection and using washable markers and upcycled Styrofoam, Christina will teach us how to create an artwork that expresses your own knowledge and unique vision of the world around you. Join us to learn more!

Hey UNYA youth! Happening NEXT WEEK, Wednesday, December 9th at 1pm!: Experience the power of storytelling through art, and discover a new activity that you can try with your family at home! Join us for #ArtAtHome, a super fun and creative webinar livestream with Vancouver Art Gallery Family Programs Coordinator Christina Jones. Grab some art supplies and create along with us via our livestream watch party or register to engage in the chat more directly on Zoom at https://b...it.ly/3iCViG5. This session’s activity is inspired by the work of contemporary artist of Coast Salish descent Susan Point, who often combines the motif of the spindle whorl with a uniquely Salish vocabulary of circles, crescents and curved triangles. Christina will tell us the story of the incredible life of contemporary artist Susan Point. Together, we will discuss the elements and shapes specific to Coast Salish design that Point uses in her prints, carvings and public sculptures. We will then learn how to make our own prints that express interconnection using shapes and elements from our imaginations, memories and cultures. WHAT YOU WILL NEED: a sponge, water, washable markers, pencil, scrap paper, heavy paper, up-cycled Styrofoam! Message us for details!
