Though discontinued in recent years, the Windsor Star used to report Holes in one scored at area courses in the Local Sports column. Most often, when I called them in, I would speak to this fella, Mark Stewart. I didn't realize it though til he was out golfing Oxley Beach one day and said "Oh by the way, it's me you're talking to when you call in." I found this particularly ironic and interesting earlier this past golf season. Remember when I posted about this guy out gol...fing with his wife...who had an amazing shot on Hole 3 that pinged the pin, dropped straight down into the cup, and then trampolined back out likely due to the styrofoam wedge at the bottom? Well that guy was Mark! And after research (with some of your leads), we credited it to him, calling it a "Covid Ace". As we congratulated him next time out, presenting the Oxley Beach Hole in One Club hat, he was smiling ear to ear! And quick to add that this was his fourth. The thought later crossed my mind that if the Star would still be listing them, he would be the one to answer my call reporting his ace! Shocked and saddened to hear of his recent and sudden death, our hearts and deepest sympathies go out to Margo, his family, and all of his friends at the Windsor Star. RIP Mark. Cleaning up and storing things for the winter in the clubhouse yesterday. Assembled all these gifts to take home and thinkin' how it looks a little like the teacher's desk at the end of the year! Brandon Bezaire never showed up at the course without a smile on his face. He's just that kind of guy! Well we've missed seeing him this summer out here at Oxley Beach...ever since his diagnosis of stage 4 stomach cancer. We're going to try and return some of the cheer he so often gives. On Saturday Oct. 3rd, we're hosting a fundraising golf day (not a tourney) to help Brandon and his wife Amy through this challenging time. So great to have the "WonderBroads" out for another round yesterday, and to have such a beautiful day to match these beautiful women! For those of you who don't know, this is the team name for a special support group who are dragon boat racers...each one of them is a breast cancer survivor! Lots of hummingbirds spotted feeding from the flowers around the clubhouse. Ever had one fly by so near that you could hear the buzzing sound of its wings? Apparently the average North American hummingbird beats its wings 53 times per second, and can fly at a forward speed of about 48 km/h with a max in diving of 79 km/h. Wow! @ #OxleyBeachGolfCourse

As we jump into fall and the days continue to shorten on both ends, we're adjusting hours here at Oxley Beach. As of today we open on weekdays at 9:00...while weekend opening for now remains at 8:00am. Currently last tee time for 9 holes is 6:00pm. Thank you.

Little did Shaun Taggart know yesterday on arrival, that the 60 degree wedge he would purchase out of the $10 used club selection we had for sale, would bring him the shot of a lifetime the very same day! Turns out it was exactly what he needed to ace the 85 yard 9th hole here at Oxley Beach. Witnessing the spectacular shot was his brother, Wayne (standing left). Congrats Shaun...Way to go!

We've been checking this spot occasionally for any signs. Sometime in the last few days...hatchlings have made their way to a new home! Research shows incubation periods for snapping turtles vary between 60 90 days depending on the weather in a given year. In a warm year the eggs develop faster and the young may emerge as early as mid August. In a cooler year, later in the fall. Given the date I recorded the eggs being laid, this puts it around 65 days or so. #snappingturtleshatched @ #OxleyBeachGolfCourse

Another ace to report here at Oxley Beach! Scored yesterday by Rob McMillen (center) on Hole #5...a 120 yard shot using his 7 iron. Witnessed by Scott Reaume and Rob Parrera. They had such a good time, after some food and refreshments, they came back for another 18 holes! Congratulations Rob!

As Windsor Essex finally moves into stage 3 today, we retain the status quo here at Oxley Beach. Our procedures and the use of a service window on the patio works wonderfully well. Many thanks to all for your cooperation and understanding.

This past week Mark and his wife were golfing the front 9. After their game they excitedly told us about Mark's great shot on the third hole. On the fly his tee shot pings the flagstick, drops into the cup, and then bounces out. Their assessment was that if not for the trampolining effect from the foam pool noodle at the bottom, this would have stuck for a jubilant Hole in One! His wife gave it to him...what do you think?
