As you connect to the strength within this shape know that this strength is always within you.... Benefits: Strengthens the legs. Stretches the shoulders, front leg hamstring and the back leg hip flexors. How to: Begin in mountain pose tadasana. Feet about hip-distance apart (heels in line with the center of the sitting bones) Step your left foot towards the back edge of the mat keeping feet hip distance apart Bend the front knee so knee is stacked over middle of ankle Reach the arms over head towards the ceiling, biceps by the ears and spinning back High on the ball of the back foot and front knee pointing the same direction as the second toe. Gently draw the low belly in to support the low back. Reach the sternum away from the navel as you spread across the collarbones Hold and breathe for 3-5 breaths. To release plants hands on either side of your front leg foot, step back foot forward into Uttanasana, Standing Forward Fold then stand tall back up to Tadasana, Mountain pose. Repeat on the other side. Modify it: If shoulders are tired then bring your hands to heart center. If you feel unstable then release the back knee to the that into Anjaneyasana, Low Lunge (check out our blog post last week on how to.)
