I was just 9years old when on June 12 1993 riots ensued in Lagos spreading to other parts of Nigeria. My mum rushed back home from work for safety. Third mainland bridge linking the Lagos island to mainland had been blocked. Tires burnt, the entire streets were up in flames. [Those who are familiar with Nigeria’s story already know what June 12 represents but those who don’t a quick google search will help.] It was as I watched the nation grapple in chaos that I made a decis...ion at my very young age to figure out why nations fail. Why do institutions fail? What systemic problem could occur putting so much lives and properties in danger? Over the past couple days, agitations have risen in Nigeria and it only reminded me of my June 12 experience 27years ago. @johncmaxwell put the summary of my findings together in his simple statement: everything rise and falls on leadership. Leadership is central to everything. In what I call fuzzy biz we now have multiple stakeholders to deal with: the environment, law, society, economy, culture, technology, politics, etc; leaders today must learn to put people at the Center of everything. And not in a woke washing way as many corporations are doing, faking their business brand/model to truly consider these stakeholders. Grateful to @regentuniversity for offering me a PhD in leadership and giving me the opportunity to further look into how leaders are made, the BEING of a leader (ontological), as against the studying of leaders or leadership qualities (epistemology). I’m also excited for the new Value Adding Toolkits (VATs) and other resources to be created to help everyday, ordinary individuals become extraordinary leaders. I absolutely believe that everyone was born to be a leader in one aspect of life or the other. And leadership develops and matures. Through training and equipping you can strengthen your leadership and serve humanity with your God-given abilities.
