So many of the obstacles to employment for people with disabilities don't stem from disability itself. The thing that really blocks the way are the attitudes an...d beliefs of people hiring. But now more employers are coming to understand how much people like the folks highlighted in this story can bring to the table. And we should all be glad for that! We came across this story via Families for a Secure Future. Make sure to give them a follow! Comment: As a reminder, this isn't just true for autism. People with many labels can be great employees and co-workers! https://www.cbsnews.com//autism-employment-60-minutes-20/
Welcome to the Waterloo Region Family Network - WRFN to the P4P Family Network Directory. A family network can be a pathway to discovering and building upon resources already present within ‘your own backyard’ and connecting with other families. Remember to check out the P4P Family Network for a list of networks across the province: https://www.planningnetwork.ca/get-connected/family-networks
Last week, the government extended the deadline to apply for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) from Sep 25, 2020 to Dec 31, 2020. Eligibility for the DTC is a requirement to receive the $600 payment announced earlier this summer. This one-time payment was created to help offset some of the expenses persons with disabilities have incurred as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Read more about the extension and the payment details under the 'Income Supports' Section of our COVID-19 FAQ page: https://bit.ly/34u20aD
