Closed until power is restored Tuesday May 18

Pahkisimon Nuye?áh Library System 10.06.2021

Good morning, everyone, PNLS Headquarters is closed for the morning due to the ongoing power outage across the area, which has no present estimate for resumption of service. Our office will resume operations at 1:00 PM if the power returns by then, and will continue to evaluate the situation if it does not. Thank you for your continued patience during this time.

The Ânskohk Indigenous Literature Festival (Nov. 4-6, 2021) features many talented Indigenous authors from across Canada. We will be highlighting a new author e...ach week, starting with Maria Campbell! More details about the festival will be posted at www.sawci.ca. Maria Campbell: Writer, filmmaker, and playwright Maria Campbell has published seven books, including Halfbreed, which was first published in 1973 and was recently republished to include pages that were pulled (by the publisher) from ‘73 edition. She is currently working on a new play with Yvette Nolin, Marilyn Poitras, and Cheryl Troupe. This play just performed a public reading in Toronto to a sold- out audience. It will open in Saskatoon in 2020. Maria is the Cultural Advisor at the College of Law, University of Saskatchewan where she also teaches a class on Indigenous Legal Traditions. She has received numerous honors and awards, among them the Gabriel Dumont Order of Merit; a three-year Trudeau Fellowship at the University of Ottawa; and six Honourary Doctorates. She is an officer of the Order of Canada.

Please be advised that PNLS Headquarters will be closing for the year at the end of the day on Friday, December 18th, 2020 and will reopen the morning of Monday, January 4th, 2021. Any hold requests placed on physical materials during this period of time will be distributed in January. (E-books, audiobooks, online databases and other electronic resources will continue to be available via our website, at https://www.pahkisimon.ca.) Please also note that the Northern Saskatc...hewan Archives are presently limited to remote-access for the remainder of this calendar year. In lieu of a group holiday photo for this year, we have taken individual photos of our Headquarters staff, which are attached below as a six-card set. (PNLS Archival Historian Graham Guest is not pictured, as he is out of the office until next year, so please be sure to contact us in the new year if you would like a limited-edition trading card of him.) From all of us to all of you, have a happy holiday season!

Good afternoon, everyone, With the recent increase of COVID-19 cases in and around the Lac La Ronge area and across the PNLS region, please be advised that as of Monday, October 19th, PNLS Headquarters will be moving to an appointment-only format for outside visitors as a precautionary measure until further notice. Visitors and patrons wishing to enter the building must wear a face mask while inside the premises, and must contact us ahead of time by phone or email so that we ...may prepare your requested materials for you; if you are physically unable to wear a mask, or are otherwise hesitant to enter the Headquarters building, we will also be providing curbside pickup of materials by request, again requiring advance notice by phone or email so that we may have your materials ready and outside at your desired pickup time. Please also note that the Headquarters building will remain staffed and functional during this time, so this access change will not impact the present delivery schedule for our member public libraries that currently remain open, and will not impact the present mailout schedule for patrons in communities without public libraries who receive their loaned library materials by mail. (If the member public library you work in is planning or considering a temporary closure due to increased local cases, please phone us as soon as possible to amend your delivery schedule accordingly.) As this evolving pandemic is a highly fluid situation that can change from hour to hour, we will continue to update you with any access changes to our Headquarters as they arise, and we may yet return to a full shutdown of the building if the local situation worsens. All of us here at PNLS Headquarters highly value the safety and wellbeing of our patrons and our member communities, and we wish everyone good health in these challenging times.

Good afternoon, everyone, As we had noted in our information package letters to all member library staff last month, we will not be holding our annual in-person... Northern Libraries Conference this year, as we wish to avoid any and all potential risks to the health and wellbeing of all of our member communities during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We will instead be producing and releasing a series of online training videos in the weeks to come, which will be made available on our website and social media channels and will cover a variety of helpful and useful topics, including daily duties, notable functions within your library's ILS (integrated library system), website and e-resource use and navigation, and more. To that end, if you are working in a northern Saskatchewan public or school library and you wish to suggest a video topic or subtopic for consideration, please email [email protected] with your ideas and/or suggestions for preferred training content. From all of us here at PNLS, we wish you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
