48x 48 Final Glow ~ Oil Available at the studio 675 North Mary Lake Road Please phone 705-380-5174 to view
The last 2 days I’ve spent cleaning up and rearranging the studio. I’m doing my spring cleaning a bit early. I hope to record a short video when it’s all back together again. It likely won’t stay this tidy for long as I have a well-deserved reputation for being a bit messy when I paint. I couldn’t deny it this afternoon as I scrubbed paint splatter off my walls and furniture and I often find an interesting surprise when I look at my face and hair in the mirror! I paint outdoo...rs with a couple ladies, one of them is always as neat as a pin. I don’t understand how she does it. She wears a beautiful hand knit sweater that is spotless at the end of the day. Not a single spot! If you’re a painter where do you fit in? Are you tidy, splashy or somewhere in between? After the cleaning portion of the studio was done, I began rearranging the paintings on the walls. When it picked up Hen House I remembered how much I enjoyed painting it. It worked up quickly and went well from the start. Just before I sat to paint this one, I read an article about limiting your brush strokes. What I quickly realized was I had to be very deliberate and thoughtful about each stroke making sure the colour, value and direction were accurate. I wouldn’t allow myself to touch the same spot twice. I approached it more methodically then usual but thoroughly enjoyed the process. It was definitely a worthwhile exercise, and a successful one, as I think the hens turned out looking pretty good! PS. The studio is OPEN for Christmas shopping. Please wear a mask and practise social distancing. 675 North Mary Lake Rd., Huntsville 705-380-5174 See more

Amidst all the changes, fear and uncertainty there are some things that remain unchanged, and it's those, very dear things, that keep us grounded. For me, it'...s my family, the beauty I see out my window, my art, and most importantly, my God. I spent yesterday in the studio with my daughter, Heidi. Both of us drank tea, listened to soothing music and splashed paint on canvas. We all have much to be thankful for .... I'm focusing on those lovely unchanging things. 24"x 36" ~ Oil ~ Unchanging Beauty, Chikanishing Trail, Killarney See more
My first time lapse! Underpainting for Wood Pile on a Sunny Day. Sound on.
This is my underpainting. I thin out the oil paint using odourless mineral spirits, then apply a thin layer over the canvas. Then, using a rag over my finger, dipped in mineral spirit, I wipe the paint off in the lightest areas and apply darker paint, with a brush, in the darkest areas. It's very useful to establish values. I then paint over it with colour.
24" x 24" ~ Oil ~ ___________ I'm looking for a title.... and ideas out there?
This isn't just a art thing.... it's a life thing.
Underpainting....something a bit different. We'll see how it goes.
Coming soon! Marike MacDonald and I at the Vhapel Gallery in Bracebridge, March 7th

This is my daughter, Heidi from Timber and Tea . She is a maker, a woodworker, a workshop diva. She loves making stuff with power tools. I love that she so comfortable with who she is. She's smart, funny, focused, hardworking, super skilled, creative and believes in herself. That's not to say that every project she does goes smoothly, but she doesn't give up. She powers through it and appreciates the experience it gives her. She one of the most 'real' people I've ever meet.... I love her to death and am so proud of who she is. Everytime I see a well established tree that's rooted in rock and thriving in a harsh enviroment I cant help but relate it to people. It's an unpleasant reality..., but our best growth comes during times of struggle. So, make like a tree! Set down your roots, stand up strong, know the storm will pass, and in the end, you'll be stronger, wiser and even more beautiful. This wonderful, secure and solid tree grows in Algonquin Park overlooking Jack Lake. #oilpainting #landscapeartist #rooted #determination #hiking #bestrong #happiness #storms #artstudio #tree #artwork #algonquinpark #hemlock See more
Do you ever make things more complicated than they have to be? I sure do. Heres an answer I got from a friend recently.
40" x 60"~ Oil George Lake, Killarney Beauty around every corner.
Inspired by the light and colours of this majestic view of Fairy Lake as seen from Lions Lookout in Huntsville, Roxanne Driedger created this oil painting. Over... the years, the small island shown in the painting has had many names. On official maps, it is Alice Island, however historical records and a number of locals refer to it as Scotch Bonnet Island. Whatever you want to call it, it is a beautiful place showing the grand beauty of Muskoka. Roxanne is a self-taught artist and finds inspiration from elements of the northern landscape of Muskoka. She often will go hiking with a camera in hand, waiting for the perfect spot she will want to capture on canvas. You can see Roxannes painting along with work by other members of Muskoka Arts & Crafts in a show at the Huntsville Summit Centre that is part of Muskoka Arts & Crafts Community Display Programs that promotes our members art in unexpected places for the community to see and enjoy. This show continues until November 12 at the Canada Summit Centre, located at 20 Park Dr, Huntsville. See more
We just got back from a few days in Killarney. We had planned a trip east but between Denny (our dog) who had surgery and our truck repairs we thought a 'stayca...tion' with a short visit to Killarney would be more smarter and therefore, more relaxing. I also finished this painting and found a ton of inspiration from our short but lovely time camping. There is no where else, within a days journey, that's offers more beauty and inspiration than Killarney. Killarney, Turtle Rock, 40" x 60" Oil See more
