Community Learning as part of its Social Support Service mandate has received funding from the Canada Reaching Home program through the Alberta Rural Development Network. We have been helping the homeless people of Lac La Biche and area in meeting their needs for food, shelter, clothing and health/medical. We are also able to help qualified near homeless people to remain in their homes and not end up on the streets. When an individual's or family's income and bank account is ...less than their expenses for shelter, food, utilities and medicine, we are able to help out financially on a month by month basis. At this point our funding ends, March 31st; but there is a possibility of continued funding pending a decision at the federal government level. To check if you qualify please call Mel at 780-623-2477, between the hours of 10am and 5pm Mondays to Fridays. If there is no answer, please leave a message.

These are night photos of the Homeless Bush Camp located in the heart of Lac La Biche. There are up to 10 people that spend the day and night in the camp. Some are there because there is a lack of space at the Out of Elements Homeless Shelter (with Covid 19 regulations the shelter can only house 6 people). Some of them are there because even if there was space at the shelter they have been banned due to their inappropriate behavior at the shelter. Community Learning provides at least one hot meal a day for the residents of the Bush Camp.

During the time the Out of Elements Shelter for the Homeless was closed and many staff were quarantined due to Covid-19, Community Learning staff and volunteers prepared food and fed the homeless people that were quarantined at the Almac. The pictures show you a sample of the breakfasts, lunches and suppers Community Learning provided during the 2 week quarantine. Thank God for the wonderful volunteers we have that fed the hungry (Mathew 25).
