Competition Opportunity!
To the music community of Prince Albert, The Prince Albert Music Festival has been running annually for over 100 years, and we will not be stopping now. However, in order to provide a meaningful and safe Festival experience to our performers we will be required to re-envision and adapt most of what we do during the coming year. If you are passionate about music and your community, and compassionate towards young musicians looking to perform in today’s environment, please c...onsider attending our virtual Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, September 29th at 8:00 pm. We are always excited to share our love of music with new people, as well as our love of fostering it in others. If you are interested in attending our Annual General Meeting, please email [email protected] at your earliest convenience. We will then respond with details as to how to attend. Take care of yourself and others, Brock Skomorowski President, Prince Albert Music Festival Association
really great opportunity for instrumentalists out there!
March 13, 2020 Today, both Saskatchewan Rivers and Prince Albert Roman Catholic School Divisions announced that they were withdrawing their student band entries in the Prince Albert Music Festival as a precautionary response to COVID-19. As our band discipline is comprised overwhelmingly of school bands, the Festival Association has little choice but to cancel all physical performances within that discipline. We are currently working to implement an opportunity for bands to s...ubmit video recordings of their pieces for adjudication and marks. In addition, the Music Festival Association is sad to announce that all awards concerts, for all disciplines, have been canceled. This decision has been made to ensure the safety and well-being of our performers, families and our community. Any awards or scholarships earned in the past weeks will be mailed to all recipients. Please pay attention to local media for a list of our scholarship winners. Should we get the chance at a later date, we would love to celebrate the wonderful and talented musicians who have performed for us this season. Thank you to all of those who have participated in this year’s Festival: the performers, teachers, parents, donors, patrons and audience. We are thankful for you, and we wish you a less eventful tomorrow. Brock Skomorowski President Prince Albert Music Festival Association
To whom it may concern, The Prince Albert Music Festival Association has previously stated that the Saskatchewan teachers’ withdrawal of voluntary services would have an impact on the Music Festival. The impact is as such: all future school-related events deemed extracurricular in nature have been suspended. This includes the choral classes on the morning of Thursday, March 12, as well as the jazz band performances between March 17 to 20. These decisions have been made after... many conversations and attempts to find alternative solutions. If there are changes to teacher sanctions in the near future we will work to reschedule as we are able. We recognize the time and energy that teachers and their students have put into preparing for these performances and we hope that they get the opportunity to share their work soon. Sadly, Brock Skomorowski President Prince Albert Music Festival Association
To whom it may concern, The Prince Albert Music Festival is built on a strong music community, and that community is diverse and built from many backgrounds. Consequently, an impact on any group within that community has an overarching impact on the Festival. This week it has been announced that school teachers within our province are withdrawing voluntary services beginning Thursday, March 12th. As an organization, we recognize the hard work that teachers put into developing... and providing opportunities for their students, and we support them during this time. As most school related Festival events take place during the school day, we are expecting little impact on the Festival and we will continue as planned. We are actively doing work to ensure that events run smoothly and that school teachers are able to perform their duties within their defined time of work. Any questions or concerns should be directed to your discipline coordinator, the school teacher to whom you are linked, or to myself. As always, we are working to provide the best and most meaningful musical experience for your children. Brock Skomorowski President Prince Albert Music Festival Association
