Listening to this elder speak of the effects he and his community suffers from mercury poisoning is heartbreaking to say the least. Not okay anywhere, let alone Canada. 40 years and counting now... #justiceforgrassynarrows

We felt the need to help raise awareness for our friends in Neskantaga First Nation and the current water crisis in their community. On Thursday September 12th,... their community’s main and back up water pumps both went out of service resulting in low water pressure and untreated water flowing through their water system. As a result, the community issued a Do Not Use Water Advisory. The water flowing is untreated and may have some bacteria therefore the BOIL WATER ADVISORY has now been elevated to DO NOT USE WATER ADVISORY. The chlorine meter that flows in the water is reading 0.00. - Chief Chris Moonias The leadership has reached out to the government for emergency assistance. However in a conference call with them, they were told that there will not be any help coming to the First Nation in regards to their State of Emergency. Indigenous Services Canada’s response to their call for help was to provide 1.5 litres/day of clean water per person to clean, bathe, cook and for consumption. To give you an idea, our partner Titus Semple decided to take a photo with his family to visually show you how much water his family would receive to cook, clean, bathe and drink for a day. I think we can all agree that this is not nearly enough water for a family to access for their daily needs, nor do we agree that the government’s response is a reasonable one. We are asking our social media followers to help raise awareness to this unacceptable response by our government. Let’s not forget Neskantaga is located in Canada too and that nowhere else in Canada would this be acceptable. #neskantaga #firstnation #watercrisis #waterislife #letshelpthem
