Well that’s a wrap - we are more than happy to say goodbye to 2020 and slide into this new year and new decade with a good dose of humble pie and lots of optimism! We were fortunate in many ways this year - while I let go of my clinic space, I found a wonderful colleague to share clinic space with and am able to provide continuing care for my wonderful patients, many of whom I also consider as family and friends. Our kids were able to attend a wonderfully supportive school b...oth online and in person, we were able to connect with our family over zoom calls, and we became even closer to all our amazing neighbours. Our heart aches for the many people who have lost their livelihood, experienced a family breakup, fallen ill or lost their loved ones to COVID, or experienced other serious physical and mental health concerns. And we send our deepest gratitude to the many frontline and essential workers who are out there selflessly serving and caring for others each and every day. They are the epitome of those who face their fears with such bravery and commitment. We never know what the future has in store for us, and this year was a great reminder that all we can do is embrace the present moment , and cherish the time we have with our loved ones. And to feel all the feels. Wishing you and your families all the very best as we navigate this new normal. Keep safe, keep healthy, and stick by your tribe! Onward team humans! See more
[....] In many cultures around the world this time of the year is the time of reflection and planning for the next year to come. It is a time to step back and move inwards rather than to expend our vitality outwards. In terms of diet, this is the time of the year to eat more foods that help supplement the Kidney and Spleen, such as rice congees, lamb, beef, shan yao (nagaimo), and winter squash. It is also appropriate to eat a small amount of mildly acrid foods such as fresh ginger, scallions and black pepper (to help keep things moving and to birth yang). Try to avoid cold foods in general, or foods that are difficult to digest such as greasy, raw, or very spicy foods. This is especially so for those patients who tend towards Spleen and qi vacuity patterns.
For those who may have questions about the COVID-19 vaccine, this is an interview with Dr. Mars Stone, facilitated and organized by my friend and colleague, Luriko Ozeki LAc who writes more about it here (feel free to share): I am SO proud of what continues to happen in my FB group, CAM19. Fellow members feeling empowered and making things happen!! The below interview was organized and facilitated within a matter or hours after Dr. Aaron Lee posted a question about the COV...Continue reading
