Happy Monday! What goals are you crushing this week?
Not sure how to pick #fonts? Here are some quick tips on how to look professional and put together using type! 1) Stick with two fonts - one serif (little feet) one sans serif (no little feet)... 2) Check out their structure -- are they big and wide, or light and narrow? 3) To create visual interest pick two that are opposite in structure 4) To look more classic/professional pick two with similar structure
WE NEED TO KNOW... It's National Carrot Cake Day, and we never pass up the chance for some cake, even when it has vegetables! While we agree that there is nothing better than some smooth cream cheese frosting, we have a major disagreement going on. Alicia prefers a smooth cake texture with nothing extra added like nuts or raisins while Katie thinks the extras are what completes the slice! So again, WE NEED TO KNOW...... Carrot Cake: NUTS OR NO NUTS?!

Happy World Baking Day If you can't find me in my office working, I'm probably in the kitchen baking. I love sweet treats (cookies in particular), and I also like the process of creating something from scratch. I'm not so fond of the clean up, but I can often convince Bryant to do that after I've baked him something delicious ... What's your favourite sweet treat? Want to recipe swap? See more

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I hope you are spending the day with someone you love, whether that be a good friend, parent, partner or pup Spread a little love around today to someone who needs it
Here's a beautiful logo for the fabulous Walls Revived! After interviewing Leann's ideal customer we developed a French inspired monogram to target upper middle class homeowners. The vibrant blue tied in with her old logo to help with consistency and the dark blue was added to build trust and give stability.
Brand Mastermind! Does your business need one? This 2+ hour one on one session is perfect for small businesses with 5-10 employees. You have the capacity and eagerness to do some of your marketing in house, but you don't have the know-how. Sit down with paper Lime Creative and Fine Point Writing and Editing and get the skills you need.
Woohoo! It's an entrepreversary! 4 years... FOUR YEARS. Where has the time gone? I wouldn't trade the last four years for anything. I've met some wonderful people and helped some amazing businesses in that time. I wouldn't be here without you all I am so grateful to get to do this every single day. Here's to another 4, or 40! (Maybe not 40 I hope to be retired by then )
"After starting my first business I recognized the importance of having a solid foundation for your brand. For my personal brand I knew I would be hiring an expert...enter Katie. She took all the work I'd done to describe the brand and created a logo I am in love with. She not only came up with the logo, but brand fonts and colours. Katie was amazing with making adjustments to create something I will love for years to come. I can't wait to show it to the world!" It was amazing work with Shelby and the Shelby Eloria brand. Shelby had a clear idea of who she wanted to target and how her business needed to show up for them. Great clients like this make me love my job!

Hi everyone! I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and say Happy New Year. My name is Katie and I am the lead designer and brand strategist at Paper Lime Creative. I love making businesses look REALLY good, stand out in their industry and get their dream clients. Creating moments of *wow* is what gets me out of bed in the morning. On the personal side of things I love to bake, read, Irish dance, boulder and hang out with my pup! I would love to hear about you and your business in the comments -- let's connect
Meet Paige! She's our resident Marketing Manager. She works about as hard as you see in the picture. But that's okay! She's great company and is perfect for bouncing ideas off of. If you ever need to talk through an idea or concept, she's got a great ear (they're quite large, too)
What's your favourite colour? I think it goes without saying that ours is lime! Green is the colour of optimism and nature. It's also one of the most relaxing colours on our eyes. We like lime green in particular for it's vibrancy and energy. Drop your favourite colour below
What do you think of these 2021 trend predictions? It feels like a 180 from the 2020 trends that were neutral and minimalist.
Last night I (virtually) went to the #BNIgala with this adorable pupper. I received my 5-year service award and was honoured with the BNI North Stars chapter member of the year. Thank you for a great evening BNI Alberta North - Canada
We are big board gamers in our family, especially as we start to approach Christmas! I have so few hobbies outside of my baby (Paper Lime, of course) but this is one that my husband and I love! We’re big fans of entertaining and enjoy having big dinners with our friends and lots of board games! I think as the world get more and more digital, playing board games is a great way to connect face-to-face with people! My favourite board games are Ticket to Ride, Secret Hitler and Gloom. What are your favourites?!
Pantone has released their Colours of the Year for 2021! This is only the second time in history that there have been two colours of the Year. What do you think of this yellow and grey combination?
New year, new you! We've all heard that before and maybe we need it now more than ever after a crazy 2021. The new year can be a great time to rebrand your business. For most businesses January is slower after a busy holiday spending season. This can give you the time and focus to work through the branding process. If you or someone you know is looking for a rebrand, send us a DM!
Bsocial Communications Inc. is one of my go-tos for social media. Check 'em out!
Timelessness is the goal with branding your business. If you can have a brand with some longevity, it will definitely pay for itself. Recognition and positioning are key, so you don’t want to be changing your brand on a regular basis A Saul Bass logo (designer of American Airlintes, Kleenex, and Girl Scouts of America) has a lifespan of 34 years! The average generation is ~25 years, which means a Saul Bass logo is multi-generational. How good would that be for your marketing and visibility?

Here is a great article on the pros and cons of the two most controversial fonts: Papyrus and Comic Sans. I personally love the Ryan Gosling SNL Skit, so please enjoy a good chuckle Did you know Comic Sans is the best font for people with dyslexia?
I went through a workshop with Katie to get a foot hold on Marketing a new project I'm collaborating on. The meeting was very fun and informative. The details and thoughts she presented are things I never would have though to consider in determining my target audience and potential buyers. Would highly recommend to anyone who needs a push into doing marketing and branding. You will be in very capable, professional, and attentive hands. Thanks Darcy! Darcy did our 2 Hour Brand Mastermind to develop his client persona. Afterwards, we were able to help him develop key components of his branding to get him started on the right path. If you’re interested in having a better understanding of your brand and how to implement it day-to-day, send us a DM!
Merry Christmas, Joyous Kwanzaa, Happy Hanukkah! What ever you are celebrating this holiday season, enjoy yourself! I love this time of year because everyone is so focused on seeing friends and family, which we often forget about during the busy spring and fall. Be present and spread the love (but not the COVID)! We will be unplugged for Christmas tomorrow.
Hey everyone! I was on Kenny Soto's Digital Marketing podcast this week where we chatted about graphic design and branding. Check it out and share with a friend!
I think we can all agree that 2020 wasn’t the year we had originally planned. That being said, I’ve made some great memories, some fantastic new friends, and had fun growing my business! The best part about what I get to do day in and out is to help businesses express their voice through their logo and branding. I love being able to be creative, to help see other entrepreneurs grow their brand, all while getting to be artistic! I’m thrilled to say that 2021 is already start...ing to book up for me! If you have any questions about how I can help your business, let’s hop on a short call so I can ensure that you are on my calendar! Honestly, I’d simply love to learn more about you, your business goals, and how we can support each other! 2020 has been hard on a lot of businesses and I want to help make sure other businesses have right strategy and connections in place to get the ball rolling in 2021. Send me a note today!
Lime fun fact! Christopher Columbus took citrus seeds, probably including limes, to the West Indies on his second voyage in 1493, and the trees soon became widely distributed in the West Indies, Mexico, and Florida.
You’re right! That’s my favourite #HarryPotter spell too! Just kidding! You may have seen these words before when getting proofs from your designer. Looks like #latin right? It comes from an incredibly old piece of literature from 45BC, but why the heck are we posting it on instagram? In the design world, we call this lorem ipsum text and we use it to place content when designs are in the early stages and the copy hasn’t been finalized yet. Because blocks of text are a de...sign element, using #loremipsum text is better than leaving a #design blank to show a client the #composition and how everything balances. It’s also better than putting your final copy will go here because readable text can be distracting when your client is trying to read what you wrote instead of how the page looks. There are also some hilarious lorem ipsum alternatives out there if you find the standard latin one boring including #pirate and #cheese ipsum! See more
Font fun! Helvetica was first introduced in the 20th Century and soon became one of the most popular fonts in the worldWhile according to numerous graphic designers around the world, the most hated font is Comic Sans, closely followed by Papyrus. Comic sans is however, great for people with dyslexia!
I love travelling. It is my number one passion in life. If I won the lottery I would backpack around the globe. While winning the lottery probably isn’t in the cards (we don’t even buy lottery tickets), I’m so grateful I can fuel one passion with another. I work my butt off in my business for my next plane ticket. Travelling gives me inspiration for design. It allows me to see how other people live. At the end of the day graphic design and branding should be human-focused ...and create meaningful connections This is a picture of me in Antigua, Guatemala in 2017 at Cerro de la Cruz. This year we were supposed to be going on a fabulous SURPRISE trip for my champagne birthday through the wonderfully talented, incredibly passionate @travellingthecs, but like many big plans in 2020 has been postponed. Don't worry world I am coming for you when this pandemic is over! See more
Having a strong, relatable brand enhances your credibility with customers, your industry, and the marketplace as a whole. As you build your brand, you also build recognition, loyalty and awareness. Credibility eases your customers into making purchases. We want to buy from companies we like, know, and trust. If your brand is credible, you’re far more likely to get sales.
Take a moment today to really think about Lest We Forget. There has been a lot of conflict across the globe since WWI and we should use this day to think about the bravery of the people who have kept us safe and continue to do so. Take some time to think about how we can bring a little more understanding and compassion into our everyday lives as the world gets more divisive to bring peace to people who need it.
Watching it all come together is my favourite part of branding. @finepointwriting and I worked with @yeg.homesbyrenee in our Brand Mastermind to put this fun piece together It's targeted to some of her favourite clients! Young couples looking for their first home together to start the rest of their lives.
Limes can be kept out at room temperature where they will stay fresh for up to one week. It can be stored in the refrigerator crisper, wrapped in a loosely sealed plastic bag, where they will keep fresh for about 10-14 days. Now that your limes are staying fresh, how about your brand? Your brand logo, colours, font and design are all elements we can look at in your next brand audit. Want to learn more? Email [email protected] for more information.
Isnt it just the best when you adore the people you work for? Have you ever done a victory fist punch after signing on a dream customer? Or, are you like me, and fawn over your clients and tell everyone how amazing there are?! The best work gets done when you love who youre doing it for. Branding can help you get the clients you want to work with over and over again. By knowing who your# dream clients are, you can tailor your messaging, visuals, website and more to be everything they need you to be. Ive definitely noticed an increase in fabulous people since my rebrand!
Fun fact about me: I LOVE MUSICALS! Ive seen a ton of musicals. The playbills above are just the ones I could find easily. I think Ive seen 14 different shows live between Edmonton, New York City and London I think my favourite thing is watching incredibly talented people tell stories. Singing, dancing and acting, its too much power for one person to have! Especially when I cant do any of it This year I actually got season tickets from @bactouring. Fingers crossed they'll be touring this year with COVID
Graphic design fun fact! The Nike swoosh logo was designed by a graphic student at Portland University named Carolyn Davidson for only $35.

Ever wonder how a graphic designer works through coming up with a creative concept? We have a few different tricks up our sleeve, but one of our favourites is mood boards! You may have seen these on your favourite home decorating show with fabrics, paint chips, flooring and more. Graphic designers do the same and we use it as a way to get all of our thoughts organized before starting a brand. These are "internal-use only" and sometimes the mood board doesn't look at all like the final brand. This one is for our favourites Blackmore Real Estate
Another adventure in finance and insurance! Storme Financial Solutions is a woman-run and woman-focused one stop shop for all your financial planning and insurance needs. Their target market are motivated women who are looking for a relationship with their financial advisor. The letters "SF" are hidden in the petals, for Storme Financial. The petals represent dandelion seeds -- a symbol of overcoming obstacles and achieving goals.
I've learned over the years that the client process looks different from designer to designer. It's a little bit of how our brains work, plus what our clients need from us. Ours starts with a 1 and a half hour discovery session! We dig deep into who YOUR ideal customer is. When we figure out who that special person is, a great brand can lower the cost of acquisition to get those amazing clients over and over again. Tell me about your dream client

The Taylor Way is my secret (not-so-secret) weapon in life. Dawn does personal, business & trauma coaching. I always say shes the person everyone doesnt know they need. If you are struggling, she has actually dealt with the worst of the worst. What if youre not struggling? Then Dawn is an accountability partner that can help you level up to reach your goals. My journey with Dawn has been outstanding. We started working together almost 4 years ago. First she tackled and ...hog-tied my #anxiety. It was GONE in a matter of sessions. Once it was gone I realized how much it was restricting my life and my business. I remember one session in particular in the early days where I was giddy with happiness and finally felt like a business owner and graphic designer. if youre even moderately intrigued by my post, give her a shout, you wont regret it! Paula Scher is my graphic design crush. In an industry that is still very male-dominated she has worked her way to the top. She loves typography and is the epitome of out-of-the-box thinking. This quote is also sooo true, but such a hard lesson to learn. Its hard to open yourself up to mistakes especially when there is a client on the other side. Mistakes, however, are inevitable and its much more productive to turn them into learning experiences and growing from them rather than dwelling on them and letting them consume you. You can also use errors and mistakes to build better relationships, its all in how you handle it!
Meet the lovely Danielle Mohr! She is one of our favourite copywriters in the Edmonton area. You can check her out at Fine Point Writing and Editing. Copywriting and graphic design go hand-in-hand, which is why we work so well together on a ton of different projects. If a project is going to stall for us, it’s often because we haven’t been provided with content. It’s the same for Danielle and Fine Point Writing and Editing, they can write all the amazing words for you, but... you need somewhere to put it! We work together to make sure that everything is cohesive between the brand voice and the brand graphics. It’s amazing how effective your marketing can be when everything looks and sounds right to your customers! There is an interview up with Danielle on the Paper Lime Creative blog - check it out for more info! See more
From cows to Coke.branding has quite the history! More than a century ago, cattle ranchers used branding irons to indicate which animals were theirs. With the rise of packaged goods in the 19th century, producers put their mark on a widening array of productscough drops, flour, sugar, beerto indicate their source. In the late 1880s, for example, as the Coca-Cola Company was getting started, there were many soda producers in every market. Before Coca-Cola could get a cu...stomer to reach for a Coke, it needed to be sure the customer could distinguish a Coke from all the other fizzy caramel-colored beverages. Today, every product and business has a visual identity and brand, that identifies who they are and what they do.
Did you know, there are about 40 different ways to describe the colour red? Here are a few. scarlet, crimson, cerise, magenta, maroon, carmine, claret, burgundy, cherry and cardinal red.
The number one reason I love graphic design and branding so much is because I get to learn about tons of different people in tons of different industries. Infinite Benefits is my first brand for a Health Spending Account company. While in a similar area to life & disability insurance or group benefits, HSAs fill a different need for both employers and employees. Inspiration was drawn from tech companies and CRMs for a modern "business tool" feel. The sun icon is used to represent infinity.
As Canadians we get to celebrate our Thanksgiving this week! I hope that you are stuffing your face with food, playing board games and spending time with family. I believe it is incredibly important to have some practice of gratitude in your life, not just on Thanksgiving. My husband and I take a moment at the end of most days to say what we were most grateful for. Gratitude kills fear, anger and anxiety. Grateful people live longer. Having gratitude opens up your life to receive more, because the universe won’t give you more than you can handle.

Graphic design fun fact! It is believed that logo designs date back as early as the 13th century, when the Egyptians branded domestic animals with hieroglyphs to mark their ownership. During 2500 BC to 1400 BC, graphic design was introduced by using Sumerian pictographs and Egyptian Hieroglyphics.
It’s that time of year everyone....! We do this every October and remind you that the holidays are coming! YAAAAY. It’s going to be winter soon! We send out this (not-so) lovely reminder because if you are thinking about doing holiday cards for your customers, now is the time to get started, regardless of where you choose to get your cards from. If you are getting them custom designed it can take 1-2 weeks for them to be finished and deliver which puts us almost at Novemb...er. THEN you have to sign and address all those cards, and THEN they need to be delivered to your clients Holiday cards are a great way to stay top-of-mind to your clients for what is a typically slower season for most businesses. It’s a nice way to say#thank you for a great year of business, and it might even jog their memory for a project in the new year! See more

When you have a strong brand, it’s a lot easier to introduce new products and services into your business. When you already have a strong brand and loyal customers, it is often easier and less expensive to introduce new products. If you have a loyal brand following, your customers will often be interested in your new products and even anticipate them coming out!
What can a strong brand do for you and your business? Your brand is what differentiates you in the marketplace and from your competitor. When customers recognize and support your brand, it helps lend a competitive edge to your company. The more recognition you receive and the more you build your brand, the more you elevate your brand and encourage word of mouth marketing among your top supporters. People will want to support a brand they believe in and resonate with.
Happy Canada Day everyone! Did you know countries have Pantone colours too? This is so so so true! If youre ever struggling and think that you cant be creative, or that youre not a creative person, creativity is like any other muscle! Use it or lose it! And just like exercise, it can really SUCK to start. I once read an amazing article that theres no such thing as creative block (writer, artist, drawer, designer block, etc) but people block themselves because they feel like they need to create something GOOD. Draw a stickman! Youve now created something! One small step can turn into a snowball, and then an avalanche. Keep going. When I was in university we had to be creative on demand! I guess I still kinda have to with Paper Lime Creative, but in school our exams would be *Design a Flyer* and you couldnt take a walk or wait until you felt more productive or bounce ideas off of other creatives
The power behind the colour green... Green is soothing and peaceful. It gives a sense of naturalness and earthiness. Green is one of the most familiar colours to the human eye. The color green relates to balance and harmony. From a colour psychology perspective, it is the great balancer of the heart and the emotions, creating equilibrium between the head and the heart. From a meaning of colours perspective, green is also the colour of growth, the colour of spring, of renewal and rebirth.

We are proud LGBTQ+ allies at Paper Lime Creative, because everyone deserves to be in love and be their true selves. You get the most out of life when you surround yourself with good people and embrace your uniqueness. This shouldnt be a privilege to some and not to others. Pride commemorates the anniversary Stonewall Riots in NYC in 1969 as a protest against police brutality. Take a moment to remember that the same year humanity was smart enough to put someone on the moon we had laws that could arrest men for being in drag and women for not dressing feminine enough. While we can't go to parades or drag shows this year, celebrate by popping on some of the fabulous Netflix documentaries (we recommend The Death and Life of Marsha P Johnson) and remember where pride comes from and to be vocal for your LGBTQ+ friends and family.

Wheres your favourite place to travel? What destination should I add to my bucket list? Does anyone have any crazy travel stories? Traveling is my ultimate why in life. Its all I ever want to do. The power of the colour yellow The color yellow relates to acquired knowledge and resonates with the left or logic side of the brain. Yellow inspires original thought and inquisitiveness. Being the lightest hue of the spectrum, yellow is known to be uplifting, illuminating, and evokes happiness, cheerfulness and fun.... Yellow is creative from a mental aspect, the colour of new ideas, helping us to find new ways of doing things. It is the practical thinker, not the dreamer. Whos favorite colour is yellow?! Do you feel happy when you see it? See more
Graphic design fun fact! The renowned director Woody Allen uses the typeface ‘Windsor’ in the titles and credits of nearly all of his movies.
Have you met our Barketing Manager, Paige? She’s a 14 year old Toy Fox Terrier. She’s looking pretty great for her age. Her duties include barking when someone’s at the door, sleeping, and responding to emails (right?! you had no idea it was her responding to you) While we probably could get through the day without her, why would we want to?! She’s got a sympathetic ear and is great to bounce creative ideas off of.... Are there any other remarkable dogs of YEG that we need to know about? Tag them here! See more
Happy Father’s Day to all you dads out there! My dad is one of my favourite people. We have a lot iof the same interests. He taught me to think critically and to be nice to everyone. (and he DIDN'T pay me to write this, wow!) Go give your pops a hug today, Edmonton!
This is so so so true! If you’re ever struggling and think that you can’t be creative, or that you’re not a creative person, creativity is like any other muscle! Use it or lose it! And just like exercise, it can really SUCK to start. I once read an amazing article that there’s no such thing as creative block (writer, artist, drawer, designer block, etc) but people block themselves because they feel like they need to create something GOOD. Draw a stickman! You’ve now created something! One small step can turn into a snowball, and then an avalanche. Keep going. When I was in university we had to be creative on demand! I guess I still kinda have to with Paper Lime Creative, but in school our exams would be *Design a Flyer* and you couldn’t take a walk or wait until you felt more productive or bounce ideas off of other creatives
