HOW TO KNOW WHAT'S ACTUALLY GOOD FOR YOU: Should you be a vegetarian?! Vegan?! Paleo Diet? Keto?! blah blah blah... I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but when new trends come out telling you how you should eat, they eventually get proven wrong by the next new thing.... But here’s the thing: Trends are not ancient wisdom. Ayurveda is. Ayurveda Works because it uses EVERYTHING in the universe as medicine. The trick is to know the properties of every food, every plant, and every drink; everything that the universe has provided to us can be MEDICINE or POISON, it just depends how much you have! Whether it’s wine, power, laziness, or food. It can be vanity, fear, anger, or even cold showers. Last week I shared a personal story with you about my Narcissistic Ex. Today I want to share something very important with you. It’s great for us to be open and share our past because it can inspire others who might be going through the same thing, however, it is so important to know that healing does not happen when we put our focus on our partner's (or family member's) avoidance, narcissism, or emotional unavailability.... This is not a blame game. Healing happens when we begin asking ourselves why we pursue people who cannot care for us in the ways that we need them to. Because you and I both know that if we had "a good guy," someone who is: emotionally available a giver who comes from an emotionally balanced background we might have run for the hills for silly reasons... The question is why?! .. and how?! How do we get to know ourselves to the point where we can thrive on receiving love? One of the worst things you could do is jump out of a relationship and into another thinking this new person has all the answers. They don't! You do. Have you ever tried fiddleheads? They are only available a few short weeks of the year. They are Rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants and fibre. You can find them in grocery stores and farmers’ markets, but they are very seasonal and disappear fast. Chances are you can find some on your forest walk this weekend. On our venture into the woods we picked them today. I try to make sure I get my seasonal fill when these are available. I think they are the cutest little thin...gs ever. What do they taste like?! They sort of have the texture of asparagus with an earthy flavour. Here is an Ayurvedic way to make them: * fresh fiddlehead ferns * olive oil+ Ghee * salt & pepper * 1/2 tsp Turmeric * 1 pierce Fresh ginger * feta cheese Start by washing the fiddleheads (several times) and then patting dry (I use a kitchen towel). Trim any dry stalk and remove any brown on the fern itself. If you use these as soon as possible, you will avoid having to remove very much from them. The longer they sit, the browner they get. Melt 1 to 2 tbsp of ghee in your iron pan, place washed fiddleheads in. Season with salt and pepper and a little bit of turmeric. Add a few chopped pierced if ginger (optional) don’t cook them for too long, about 20 minutes is great. veggies need to remain crisp and green. Are you like me?! Stuck at your office all by yourself?! Maybe with some food cravings you never had before?! Study shows mindless eating has become a thing for many of us during the pandemic. When you forget to eat and all of a sudden have a craving for pastries or coffee or chips, you are eating mindlessly and following your blood sugar’s call.... these snacks will then give you a high energy point and you will feel good for a few minutes but then there comes the crash an...d the cravings continue..... This is also true if you are following intermediate fasting that suggests not to eat breakfast. By the time it is time to eat, your body has already fallen into this up and down craziness!!! Here is what I did the break the cycle: Focus on eating a good breakfast meal and also a filling lunch that will hold you up till dinner time. love intermediate fasting?! Skip dinner or make dinner quite early instead of skipping breakfast. Get quality time every meal and you will not over eat! Âyurveda considers meal times a ritual. Eating quickly will result in indigestion, gas, bloating or heaviness depending on your Dosha. Eat whole foods. That means anything that nature made. Sorry your Amy’s soup out of is not. Your organic crackers will still result in blood sugar crash. Whole foods like: fruits, veggies, unprocessed grains, good fats like avocado oil or ghee, beans... all of this will create solid energy levels that will help you get through the day. Alcohol might feel good at the time but it will create after effects like RAJASIC mind (our mind become overwhelmed thoughts move faster and we get stressed as the result) so choose mindfully and with care. drink CCFT (cumin coriander fennel tea) add ginger if you associate with Vata or Kapha Doshas. Disappointed by the strength of his mind, Mara then said: Who do you think you are?! Then Buddha put his hand on the Earth and said: the earth is my witness, I will sit u...ntil I am enlightened. And he was.... And you can too, by staying true to what is your Dharma and away from distractions. You can still live a joyful life, full of what you desire but it is the art of learning to detach, detach from the outcome. Move with the flow of the universal force that moves you. According to Ayurveda, gas, bloating, belching, burning, unhealthy weight gain, food intolerances, and issues with elimination may be due to an incompletion of the three Ayurvedic stages of digestion. If each stage is interrupted by eating unwholesome foods; eating too quickly, while stressed, or on the run; or eating too slowly, a variety of indigestion symptoms related to ama, or undigested food, can ensue. I was just reading Charaka Samhita (the bible of ayurvedic science) and in it, there is a chapter called Janapada Dvamsa Vyadhi, which means world-wide epidemics. There Charaka says this is a great opportunity to be here at home. This is a period to go within so we can follow our dinacharya [daily routine]. Wake up early in the morning, brush your teeth, scrape your tongue, rinse your mouth and drink hot or warm water. Have ginger, cinnamon and cardamom tea, regular chai m...ade with tulsi (holy basil, one or two leaves), or even mint, cinnamon and cardamom tea. These herbal teas boost energy.
