Making hand painted and embellished mask in raw silk with nose wire, adjustable elastic and extra filter pocket....making them takes a long time, but they feel so wonderful during the day in the classroom. We all wear face mask all day long at our high school and as of this week all of my fashion students in grade 10, 11, and 12 are making the same mask in colourful cotton fabric. Our lives have changed after the world has been hit by COVID 19, but we find new ways to keep... life colourful and happy. #fashionstudies #highschoolfashion #makingmask #handpaintedsilkmask #keephappy #perfectfitmask See more

Being a teacher for the past 18 years, I always improvised in my classrooms, no matter if I was teaching at the city of Calgary recreational centres, Cochrane high school, Alberta college of Art and Design, or in my private studio.... As a teacher, you always have a plan, but you don't write down everything step by step because you have the luxury of being in the same space with your students and you co-create the direction of the lessons as your students engage in their lear...ning and ask you questions..... As of mid March 2020, when our school closed it's door to the students and staff, we all found ourselves in a new realm, almost unreal.... we connected through virtual classrooms and I taught live lessons for the first little while, but soon I realized some of my students are unable to attend the classes as usual due to limited access to technology and dealing with other problems due to Covid 19. This time is specially difficult for our teens, they are at a stage of their lives that they are blossoming and need to stay connected with their friends, teachers and feel they belong to a greater community... So to maintain connection, creating a sense of continues community and provide equal educational opportunities, I decided to record my lesson and post them on my class sites. This was a new challenge for me... I am used to be behind the camera shooting photos and videos and not in front of it, also so used to improvisation of my lessons not transcribing them ahead of time...looking at some YouTube channels, I felt intimidated that I am by no mean a professional video creator and instructor, but... But, loving my students and missing them so much, I thought this is a little gift I could give them to show them that they are dear and close to me, and no matter where we are, I am still available to teach them what I learnt in my life and I will keep our classroom alive through our Google Meet place, where they could hangout with their class mates, do group projects and ask me their questions. Here is a link to my very first recorded lesson for my fashion studies students at Nelson Mandela High School with Calgary Board of Education:
