Check out this feature in the Peninsula Review (and Vic News) on the St. Andrew's Cathedral roof that Parker Johnston is currently installing. The new copper roofing panels are replacing the old slate roof. This is the second roof replacement for the Cathedral since it was built in 1892. PJ installed the TPO roof system and LKM installed the wall cladding system (24ga painted metal). Red Deer school: our Calgary location worked on this project and did an fantastic job! It includes 6 different colours of 7/8" corrugated cladding and Hidden Fastener cladding. The build up behind the cladding is an air/vapour barrier, subgirts and semi-rigid insulation. Ask a Roofer! An interview with our Shingle Division Manager, Brian MacDonald... Q1: Which fibreglass shingle would you choose for your own home? Why? Which colour?... Brian: Owens Corning, 40-year, Brownwood, is on my own home. Why? Good track record from online reviews, no lawsuits, all our applicators say by far the best shingle to apply. Q2: How big was the largest roof you've personally estimated? Brian: Large strata, over 1,000 squares, 2 phases including the clubhouse totaled 2,500 squares when completed. Q3: What are some telltale signs that your roof should be re-roofed? Brian: Broken shingles in the yard, granular loss collecting in the gutters and leaks! Q4: Which style of roof is most difficult to re-roof? Brian: Most difficult would be a steep, multi-layer, no access, no driveway for bins and disposal and unexpected wood rot. Q5: Do you recommend a full tear off of old material before re-roofing? Why? Brian: Always full removal of shingle layers, it is a manufacturer requirement for their warranty. Q6: How important is moss removal, considering the climate we live in? Brian: Moss removal is a condition of the manufacturer warranty to "maintain" the roof. Only use a very reputable de-moss company with years of service. Never use the door-to-door pressure salesman and never-ever use powdered laundry soap! *We recommend Thomson Roof Treatment for de-mossing: 250-385-3124* Q7: What made you interested in the roofing sales business? Brian: Sales in this trade is the next step from being an Applicator/Foreman. Q8: What do you enjoy most about your job? Brian: The most interesting part of the job is every day is different, every customer is different and every house is different. Makes the job interesting! Q9: What do you see for the future of roofing materials? In terms of technology and style? Brian: Changes will be solar, this will dominate in the next few years. At this point in time the demand is not enough, so the costs are too high. When manufacturers figure out how to make pricing more competitive, the demand for requests will then follow. Thanks Brian!
