You've heard of fascia right? Here's a great post on the different forms of fascia. #Repost @bluestagrams The term FASCIA is a hot topic in sports... medicine and health in general. Its important to know how the biology behaves to better understand how to change it. This is what fascia looks in different forms: Components of the fascial system. The fascial system includes large aponeuroses like the first layer of the thoracolumbar fascia (A), but also a myriad of enveloping containers around and within skeletal muscles (B) and most other organs of the body. The internal structure of fascial tissues is dominated by collagen fibres which are embedded in a semiliquid ground substance (C). TWO-THIRDS OF HERNIATED DISCS HEAL ON THEIR OWN! - RESULTS FROM A RECENT META-ANALYSIS Too many people think that once you have a disc herniation (or disc bulge...), that youve got it for life Well, a recent meta-analysis (Zhong et al., 2017) has shown that 2/3 of disc bulges spontaneously heal on their own! Many of them within a few months too. Conclusion from the paper: Because the overall incidence of disc de-herniation is now 66.66% according to our results, conservative treatment may become the first choice of treatment for LDH. Even though discs sometimes herniate, this does NOT mean they 'slip'. Jarod Hall has written a great blog on what actually does happen and how to deal with it. Read it here https://www.physio-network.com//12/10/discs-dont-slip-dam/

Are frozen shoulders really stiff? A brand new study looked into the role of muscle guarding and range of motion loss in patients with frozen shoulder. The vide...o clearly shows a patient having much more ROM of the shoulder under general anaesthesia. We are excited to announce that we will be reviewing this study for the August issue. Find out more about our review service here, and how you can stay up to date with the latest evidence in physiotherapy: https://www.physio-network.com/memberships/ Here's a few highlights from the study: In frozen shoulder patients large increases in range occurred following anaesthesia Capsular contracture may not be contributing to restricted range in frozen shoulder Muscle guarding contributes to restricted movement in some frozen shoulder patients Very interesting study. This needs to be explored further & ongoing research is planned from what we know. We want to commend Steve Kamper (Physio Network author) and colleagues for their great work. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/29986193/
