For many years Parkway has become the church home for many of the residents at Christian Horizon(CH) in the South Ottawa area. They have become our friends. They serve at Parkway and worship with the church most Sundays- until the pandemic hit and we closed the doors for a season. Even as the church has opened our friends at CH are not allowed to visit the church onsite yet due to the increased risks they face with this virus not under control, and We Miss Them! SO we decid...ed to do something about it and we think you'll want to help reach out to them too! We are making & collecting encouraging cards for our CH friends just in time for the Christmas season to not only let them know we miss them but to also spread some Christmas cheer and let them know they are not alone even during this pandemic! Our goal is to collect 50 cards...can you help us reach our goal?! For the entire month of November we will collect your hand made, store bought and personally written cards & notes. We encourage you to write to a CH friend that you know by name or make a general card that could go to any one of them. You can drop off your card(s) at the church anytime at the side of our front entrance in the black mailbox until Nov 30! But wait- what about others who are high risk or isolating more? We know it's not just our CH friends who are more limited than the average person during this pandemic season. So we encourage you to GO FURTHER and think about the individuals in your life who are staying home and isolating more and reach out to them too...It could be an elderly neighbour, or maybe it's a co-worker who hasn't come back to the office in order to support their kids at home, or the single mom/dad whose household doesn't include any other adults to talk to. With God's strength we can remember our friends and let them know they are not alone and we are thinking of them in the midst of this exhausting and bizarre season.

I (Liz) was lying in bed last night under my cozy new comforter warming up from the cold evening drifting off to sleep & wondering if I should flip a switch and turn our heat on yet when I was jolted awake from thoughts of Parkway's Sleeping Bag initiative this month came to mind. I thought about the 376 ppl who were sleeping unsheltered in 2018 and that meant 376 ppl who could not find space in shelters, or a couch in someone's home. As I lay there in my warm bed I thought ...I can't imagine being outside tonight in the cold and rainy air with no shelter or barrier from the weather. and my heart ached for the potential hundreds of people out there in Ottawa last night and just how much colder it will get this winter. I'm so glad we're part of a church that cares about those 376 people and are making opportunities for others to care for them too. Will you help us raise money to buy really durable sleeping bags that can withstand our -35 winters and bring warmth to those people who are unsheltered this year? We are partnering with Ottawa Innercity Ministries who have relationships with these people and really know who and when to give these supplies to. Our goal is to help 10 people and buy 10 high end sleeping bags (approx $250+HST)- a goal of $3,000. We are just past halfway to our goal with a little less than 2 weeks to go...wouldn't it be amazing if we not only met this goal- but blew it away and could give more sleeping bags to more people?!
