Ducky's Cleft Palate repair from our talented surgeon Dr. Petrut went extremely well! Swipe for the after results Cleft Palate is a malformation or disconnection of the tissues that form the roof of the mouth. It can occur as a congenital defect inherited by birth, trauma during fetal development, many medications given to a cat/dog during pregnancy or due to certain viral infections/ illnesses if the mother is sick while pregnant.... If the Cleft connects with the nasal cavity, the puppy or kitten may cough while trying to eat or drink. Pneumonia can occur due to trouble chewing and swallowing and food/milk getting stuck in the airways and lungs instead of the stomach. Ducky was such a brave girl during her stay with us.
