Beware of phony websites. As of today, you can not apply online for a Canadian Passport. You can download a .pdf application file, fill it out and print it. You can then either mail that form or bring it to the Passport Office at 100 Ouellette Ave. You can also pick up printed forms at any Post Office, Service Canada location or at Passport Canada. MacLaren's Passport Photos also has applications available in the lobby of the 100 Ouellette building for your convenience.

With Rememberance Day quickly approaching we like to remind our Canadian Citizens living in the U.S. and anyone that may be coming from out of town in Southwestern Ontario that we will be closed on Monday November 11th 2019 at our 100 Ouellette Ave. Passport Studio. Well, Family Day is here again and despite the fact that it is a long weekend for a great majority of people.....the Canadian Passport Office in downtown Windso...r will be open with their regular hours until 4:30 PM. It is the perfect time to get your Passport Photo and fill out your application. This Monday, Feb. 20 is Family Day and it appears to be a 'quasi-holiday' with many services closed and just about as many open. Yes, the Passport Office at 100 Ouellette WILL BE OPEN until 4:30pm. So we will be 'manning our station' in the main lobby for anyone needing passport photos so you can run upstairs (actually, you have to take the elevator) to submit your application. Our hours are 9am to 4:30pm and no appointment is necessary and we should get your photos in your hands in about 5 mnutes. The cost for 2 photos is $14.99 plus tax.

'HAPPY THANKSGIVING' to our Canadian born American residents - - our Downtown Windsor Passport Photo office will be open this Thursday the 24th and Friday the 25th from 9am - 4:30pm for all of your Passport Photo needs at 100 Ouellette Ave Windsor ON - - just a few short blocks from the Windsor-Detroit tunnel exit. How lucky are we?? We were overwhelmed this week when presented with a 'Stefano' canvas -- by the artist himself. This young man from Rome certainly surprised ...us with this amazing painting. So.......we just received some new canvas framing options and decided to enhance it even further (if that is possible?) These new 'L' shaped frames are designed to leave a space between the edge of the wrap and the edge of the frame. We are very pleased with the results. What a surprise this week! A very friendly and personable woman came into the lab and asked for some Canadian Passport Photos. While I was directing her to th...e coat rack, mirror (the most important part of the whole passport experience - the mirror) and chair she said "I 'googled' your business and found that you had a 5 star rating for passport photos and flew in from Afghanistan to get my pictures and apply for my passport". She went on to tell me that she worked on a very large Air Force base in the middle of nowhere-istan and that she had never lived in Canada but decided for a number of reasons to come to Windsor to apply for her passport. I realized I am of a certain age (something we do not talk about) that I am continually surprised by the power of the internet and our shrinking world. (our neighbourhood has certainly increased in size) As she was leaving she left me with one final thought "don't forget your 5 stars". See more

Just a clarification for those who may be confused. Passport Canada's Windsor office will still be open for business on Tuesday July 2nd at 8:30 am. The Service Canada office in the 400 Building is NOT processing Passport applications starting next week. "None of the current 34 passport offices across the country, including the one in Windsor, are expected to close immediately under the decision."

The new passports will be renewable for either five- or 10-year periods, but they’ll come with a price: $120 for five years, up from the current $87, and $160 for the 10-year option. Passports for children will be $57, an increase of $20. For those applying outside Canada, the fee skyrockets to $190 for a five-year passport up from $97 and $260 for the document that would expire in a decade.

Very important change effective October 1st that parents should be aware of when applying for a child's passport. When applying for the first time, you know must have the "long form" birth certificate, not the card size. Your application will not be accepted with the card as proof of birth. For renewals, as long as it's the same parents/guardian applying, a long form birth certificate is not required.

Travel Tip: many countries require anywhere from 3 to 6 months left on your passport before you will be allowed entry. Greece, for example, requires 3 months. Check the Department of Foreign Affairs Voyage website for the Travel Report on your destination. It provides up to date advice on exactly what is required, along with other helpful information. Don't get caught at the airport with not enough time left on your Passport!

An important update for parents seeking a passport/renewal for their children! The Passport Office located at 100 Ouellette Ave is no longer distributing paper copies of the Children's Passport Application (under 16 years old). It's I-68 season for all you boaters. You need 3 American Passport size photos (50mm x 50mm). Drop in to MacLaren's Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 4:30 and we'll take care of you!

Quick tip if you're heading out to get your Passport photo taken - try to avoid wearing all white shirt/top/sweater. The white blends in with the background and can make getting a valid picture difficult. Bright bold colours or patterns work very well.

Many countries require a certain amount of valid days remaining on your Passport before granting you entry to their country. For eg. Costa Rica requires 90 valid days remaining on your Passport from day of entry. Failure to meet the requirements may result in being turned away from your flight. Passport Canada is proposing to increase its fee for a five-year adult passport by $33 starting in 2013, along with other increases. That would bring the full cost to $120 from the current $87, with the current $25 consular fee included.
