Bishop Jakes in conversation with Cheryl Weber makes it clear there is a long road ahead of us when it comes to reversing racism, biases, and other hindrances that has kept us separated. This compelling conversation is a message to the Church today. A call for us to do much better, for leadership listen, then speak up. As leaders we need to lead the conversation, not shy away from difficult or uncomfortable issues. We need to find solutions and act on them. Bishop Jakes also... touched upon two very important aspects already embraced by the Pastors Edge, diversity and inclusiveness. Bishop Jakes summarized these two vital aspects very succinctly, when he said, diversity brings us to the table, but inclusiveness allows us to talk. This not only applies to conversations on racism, but all subject matter. We can not begin to repair and heal unless we truly come together as one body in Christ Jesus. I encourage you to forward this video to other leaders that you are in relationship with, and let’s continue the conversation. Here is the full interview: http://www.100huntley.com/watch
From 100 Huntley Street's Cheryl Weber "When someone entrusts you with the raw truth of their story, it is a sacred trust. I was so incredibly impacted by this very transparent conversation with the Bishop T.D. Jakes about our racial history, the church’s involvement in past abuse and the challenging road ahead to healing. I think this is one of the most important conversations I’ve ever had. It is a must-see!! Come with an open heart. ... I dedicate this conversation to all of my black brothers and sisters who have felt like they weren’t listened to or understood, that their trauma was swept under the carpet, that doors were closed to them or things were done to them because of the colour of their skin. You are gorgeous. You matter. You are a masterpiece of God’s design. And you deserved so much better. I pray that God drops healing into your hearts as you hear the Bishop speak so much truth. And I pray you can forgive the people who had my skin colour who oppressed, abused or even murdered your loved ones. I am sorry. Sending much love!"
