MR. SPEAKER : The honourable member for Pictou Centre. [Page 355] TRENTON STEELTOWN CENTENNIAL PARK: OUTDOOR ATTR. - RECOG.... HON. PAT DUNN : Mr. Speaker, many hidden gems are located in our beautiful province. One of these treasures is the Trenton Steeltown Centennial Park. This popular park is located on the northeast edge of the town. The park offers a large number of walking trails within the 560-acre site, making it by far the largest public green space in Pictou County. Local residents use the park each day to socialize and engage in a healthy lifestyle. Trenton Park offers many attractions such as the outdoor swimming pool, amphitheatre, fishing ponds, cross-country skiing, fishing, and a feeling of tranquility. The committee of citizens from Pictou County, known as the Hemlock Group, have been preparing for a major development of this truly amazing area. Pictou County will be looking forward to additional opportunities at Trenton Steeltown Centennial Park.

Yesterday, I rose in the Legislature to congratulate Evan Sharpe for his excellent performance at the Special Olympics National Games. Here is my full statement: SHARPE, EVAN: SPECIAL OLYMPIAN - CONGRATS. HON. PAT DUNN: ... Mr. Speaker, several athletes from Nova Scotia reached the podium during the Special Olympics National Games. Stellarton’s Evan Sharpe, an amazing athlete, took home silver in the pool for the 200-metre freestyle and made a great showing in other events. He also knocked eight seconds off his personal best time in the 100-metre competition. This was Evan’s first national event and the popular athlete was overjoyed with his personal accomplishments during the Special Olympic Games. The competitive athlete demonstrated his dedication and commitment during the past year preparing to make the Nova Scotia squad. I ask all members of this Legislature to join me in congratulating Evan Sharpe for his excellent performance at the National Games.

The Aberdeen Walk-In Clinic will be suspending operations between Aug. 5 and Sept. 17 while the doctors who own the clinic take some time to think about the future. It’s frustrating to see this and If the Aberdeen Walk-In Clinic were to permanently close it would be somewhat disastrous. Here are my comments on this issue from an article on the NG News Website (link below):... Pictou Centre MLA Pat Dunn said it’s frustrating to see what’s happening with the Aberdeen Walk-In Clinic and believes the problem has a lot to do with the province viewing all such clinics the same. It seems like they want to operate all clinics across the province in the same way, shape and form and they can’t do that, he said. I know clinics in Halifax where they see patients but there’s no follow-up. I know for a fact here in New Glasgow at the Aberdeen clinic there is a follow-up with patients. There are referrals. Dunn said he believes strongly that the doctors working at the Aberdeen clinic should be paid the same as doctors who see patients in their office. To me, it’s absolutely insulting to them and a lack of respect for what they’re doing, he said, referencing how they fill a need caused by the shortage of doctors. The number of people who use the walk-in clinic in New Glasgow is enormous, Dunn added. If this place were to permanently close, it would be somewhat disastrous.
