What is therapy? What do you actually do in a session? These are some common questions that people have. I like this picture because I see a metaphor for therapy. The path is covered with leaves and the client may not know the way. The therapist has walked this path before and knows the safe places to walk with the client.... At times the client can’t see how their genetics, social and family history influence their present decisions. This can make understanding current situations very frustrating and confusing. Clients may feel they are stuck in the same repeating cycle. A therapist can empathetically help in connecting the past to the present. This can provide clients with a more informed vision.
