Hi all ; let's meet up
Hey lovely women pictures from the current pathways to leadership program for immigrant women at YWCA Thinking of you all
Everything comes to you in the right moment. Be patient.
Pathways to Leadership Program for Immigrant Women was developed by Priti Shah and delivered to four groups at Frog Hollow and Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House in Vancouver. Throughout the course, the classes met weekly in the mornings for two and a half hours and participants had home assignments between classes. Child minding was provided on site for all sessions of the program. The program facilitator/educator, Priti Shah, had the support of the Neighbourhood House staff... and two practicum students from the University of British Columbia. The methodology of Pathways is based on adult education principles and popular education. The facilitator uses self reflection and personal experience to guide women to wxplore their values, strengths and interests, as well as supporting them to take risks. Participants are encouraged to identify and use their inherent strenght and power. This validates their struggles and experiences, creates space for their unheard voices, gives them the opportunities to gain understanding of systemic barriers, develops their self advocacy skills and builds capacity. The program design builds on principles of experiential learning and citizen empowerment found in adult education and community development literature. The course incorporates the nine essential workplace skills: reading, writing, numeracy. compurer use, document use, thinking, oral communication, working with others and continuous learning. There are five modules, 53 hours in lenght. Facilitators may change the order of the topics but it is ideal to complete all modules to arrive at the stated program outcomes. The following activities: Unlearning Stereotypes (Module 3, Activity 2), Dynamics of Power and Privilege (Module 3, Activity 3), and the four activities on Racism (Module 4, Activities 1,2,3 & 4), are essential to include as these are the activities that participants found the most transformative and impactful.
