The Give a Little, Help a Lot campaign at Your Independent Grocer ran from July 9 to Aug. 8 this year and the results show that this community values quality he...alth care close to home. As customers checked out, the 56 YIG cashiers asked if theyd like to support the Hospital. The campaign raised $5,421!! It amazes me how generous our community is when we run our Give a Little Help a Lot campaign, said store owner Guido Patrice. This is especially evident when we are raising funds for an organization like our Almonte General Hospital and Fairview Manor. Tanya and I are very proud of our community with the outpouring of care and support during these challenging times. Almonte truly is The Friendly Town. Funds raised through this campaign will help fund replacement or new equipment at the Hospital and Manor including the CT scan.

Over the last few months, we have been overwhelmed by the acts of kindness from our amazing community. This week we would like to say a big thank you to Monique Renaud (who you may know from her incredible photography) for bringing our ENTIRE PC Express department delicious ice cream from The Almonte Ice Cream Shop as well as Debbie from our neighbouring Ultramar up the road, who gifted some of our front end staff supreme car washes for doing her a very small favour. Our Garden Centre has been restocked with fresh annuals, hanging ferns, beautiful tropicals and soils. The Garden Centre team has been working hard to ensure everyones safety. We sanitize every cart after each use and limit the amount of customers inside the garden centre. We are open daily 8am to 6pm.

Dry cleaning is available again with a Monday, Wednesday and Friday pick up. We have also re-instated full service lottery at customer service. Reminder that we are still limiting customers in the store and please continue to use physical distancing measures.

Fiddlehead season is here.... Did you know... Fiddleheads season is from May to mid June.... Taste similar to green beans and asparagus. Fiddleheads should be eaten cooked, never raw and rinsed thoroughly under cold water to remove the brown membrane. Recommended to boil fiddleheads for 8-10 minutes until tender. Similar to apples and bananas fiddleheads goes through an oxidation process once exposed to air and dark green/brown colour. Trim the discoloured ends and cook.

Have you seen our new PC Express parking spots? We have created a separate area with bigger spaces to better allow for social distancing (and more efficient loading) upon pickup. This week we have been adding more timeslots to our website as well to serve more of the community. Thank you for your continued support and patience during these busy times.

Our Garden Centre will be open starting Saturday May 2 from 9am to 5pm. We will have similar restrictions in the garden centre as seen in the store. Changes we are making this year for everyones safety are:... We will be restricting access to the garden centre to a certain number of people at a time. Just like at the store, only one person per household should do the shopping and keeping a 2 metre (6 foot) distance at all times is essential. There will be one way aisles throughout the centre. Please follow the directional arrows. The 2019 plant guarantee will be extended to 2021. No returns will be accepted. The pot recycling program will not be active this year. Please recycle your pots at home, or, keep them till 2021 when we hopefully will be able to return to normal business. We will also do our best to assist you with soil purchases, but the staff will not be able to touch or enter any vehicles as they load. If you would like help loading soil into your vehicle, staff can load it as long as you remain in the car. This will be a different experience for all of us so please be patient with the staff as we find new ways to assist you.
