Anxiety is indeed and typically an internal experience. Before anxiety appears people first feel distress. We can use stress management skills to manage our stress. But if our thought patterns (such as the ones on the right side of the chart) start catastrophizing with a layer of unfounded fear of the future we move into anxiety. Stress + fear = anxiety. CAUTION: Do not assume that just because you see the behaviours in the left column that someone is battling anxiety. Most of these practices are good for our well-being whether experiencing an every-day variety of stress or anxiety. The word ALWAYS creates tension in Always in Control and Always Organized. There's a time to let go. There's a time to let being organized take a back burner to have some creative, messy fun.
