I am a white woman living in Canada who thought I had some understanding of the affects of slavery. I did not. Nor did I have any real understanding of the the indignities and trauma that black people are still dealing with today. This is a must read to really understand how the past has affected the present and what is really going on in today's world for black people and many minorities. The more we know, the more we can make changes.

It’s Time To Release What Triggers You No matter how much I intellectualize that when a client says no to my proposal that it is not personal, I still get highly triggered and go down the rabbit hole of feeling personally rejected and that there must be something wrong with me she said. Been there, done that!! The problem with these triggers is that they are a body reaction that just happens, and no amount of reading or rationalizing is going to help in that moment. To he...al this pain, you have to face where those feelings are really coming from. But here is the upside, what if I tell you that what triggers you might not actually have anything to do with you? I know, you got excited there for a second but sorry, this still means you have to do your work since it is your life that will benefit. We are the recipients of whatever baggage, good or bad, our parents are holding. And our children are the recipients to our baggage, good or bad. Understanding your family system and the effects it’s had on your life and dealing with those feelings is what heals the triggers in your body. If you would like more information on how to release what’s triggering you or tripping you up, please contact me at [email protected] and let’s schedule a chat. Great book!! I learned a lot from this book, particularly that dealing with the stressors in our lives does not necessarily remove the stress that stays in our bodies. We must complete the stress cycle to physically feel better, two totally different things. This book also explains why women experience burnout differently than menand provides a simple, science-based plan to help women minimize stress, manage emotions, and live a more joyful life.

Redefining Today’s Woman It’s confusing to be a woman in today’s world. We are career women, mothers, wives, and CEO’s of household operations. It’s a lot of hats which come with a lot of stress. So, how do we comfortably integrate these identities while at the same time be our authentic selves and get our own needs met? Like I said, confusing being a woman today. Back in the day roles were simple. Men went to work and women for the most part stayed home. Those typic...al roles no longer apply but the problem is that we have yet to fully arrive in today’s world. Having a career is now expected for both men and women, but the bulk of home and childcare tasks still fall to women. We want to be the absolute best we can for our families and our careers. But no matter how hard we try, many women with children are still feeling some stigma in the workplace that they are not as serious about their career’s vs men because of childcare duties. Conversely, women are also feeling a certain amount of shame for not being fully available to our kids. The result is stress, guilt for not being all things and feeling that you are failing at everything. So, the big question, how can you be a great mom and great at your career at the same time WITHOUT that other baggage? Integrating these two identities starts with understanding how deeply imbedded the typical stereotypes and old belief patterns are still within us. How do you compare the type of mom you are vs the way your mom raised you when mom lived with a totally different set of societal expectations? We can’t compare and yet many of us still do and end up feeling like we are constantly failing. So stop comparing. We are a new, evolving woman and it’s time to step into the new you. And the first thing we need to change are those internal perceptions. Let’s take another look at what subconscious messages you are telling yourself that are getting in your way so you can step into a new way of being. Your family just wants you to be mentally present when you are there. Your career needs you to be mentally present when there. Who you are and what you bring to the table and doing it with confidence, that is what is most important. You will never see a man feel like he is less competent because he had to leave work early to get his sick child from school. Let’s take a page from his book and break our perception of what we think we should be doing and just walk our truth.

Well, that was a year I never thought I would ever experience!! What a challenge on so many levelsmentally, emotionally, socially, financially, physically. Even if your work was essential and you had no disruptions, it was still a challenge learning a whole new way of working, living and being. But at the same time, it was an absolutely amazing and inspiring year as people faced these challenges and accomplished incredible things. From taking on the tasks of keeping you...r kids going in school and helping them with their needs during this isolation, to figuring out a new way to communicate and support our elderly. I saw so many people get creative and pivot their careers, businesses and ways of thinking and being in order to manage their lives and families, as well as keep themselves and their livelihoods going and for some, flourishing. So, if we can handle this, just imagine the possibilities of what we are capable of. For me personally, I made the move from part time coach to a full-time business this past year. Like many of us, I now have a resiliency (in so many different areas of my life including business) that I did not have a year ago. How empowering is that! On the other side of struggle is the opportunity for tremendous growth and change. So, if we can do this, what amazing things can we create and how exciting to think about where we will we be a year from now! Happy New Year 2021 to all of you!! xoxo
