I wanted to share something that has been super helpful lately in helping with a time in my life that most women suffer, and some more than others. The dreaded menopausal phase. I feel its not talked about enough, maybe because its related to aging? No one likes to admit their getting older and all the added, lovely side-effects, such as weight gain, mood swings, fatigue and those not so hot "hot flashes". What has helped me: 1. Staying active. Doing my workouts earlier i...n the day so they don't negatively affect my sleep at night. 2. Eating more protein and adding complex carbs. I had to change my way of eating, I would go hungry since I had cut-out carbs almost completely in the past, but now I find that it helps when I enjoy whole grain carbs like sweet potato, quinoa, whole grain brown, wild rice and sprouted grains & legumes. Many studies indicate that increasing whole food intake, fiber (fruits & veg), quality protein, and healthy fats can help mitigate symptoms as well. 3. If you know me well, you know I am very pro-nutrition and pro-supplementation, thus adding a natural iso-flavone & red clover supplement helped immensely reduce the frequency and intensity of my hot flashes and helped me sleep better at night. The supplement EstroPro has been a saving grace for me that includes key phytoestrogens (estrogen like compounds found in plants) which have structural similarities to our natural estrogen that decline during (peri/post) menopause. It's not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives. It's what we do consistently. Tony Robbins And while this is true of most everything in life, the "compound effect" is a powerful one. Happy to have applied this principal to my supplementation. It was tricky at the beginning, forgetting to take them was the hardest hurdle to get over. But then I created the habit and am so grateful to see and feel the difference it has made in my health at the cellular level. A...s a dancer and dance instructor, after years of multiple injuries, this has been key in helping me create longevity in dance. What I have learned over the years, and thus WHY I take supplements: 1. No matter what anyone tells you, we canNOT get all essential and optimal nutrition from our food. Our food source is compromised due to soil depletion, industrial farming, and hybridization techniques: animals and vegetables we eat have fewer nutrients. 2. Supplements are NOT a substitution for good nutrition and a healthy diversity of plants in your diet. Trust me, this girl is ALL about the nutrition, I'm obsessed. 3. Due to the multiple burdens our bodies endure, especially in the last few decades, namely environmental toxins, lack of sunlight, and chronic stress, we all have higher nutrient needs. Lastly, not all supplements are created equal. Consuming a pharmaceutical brand makes all the difference in potency, purity and especially bioavailability, meaning whats the point of taking these pills if they are not absorbed by your body?
