Another blast from my past. When I was learning Filipino back in the 80s and 90s, I was a fanatical "purista." So much so that I compiled a thesaurus to provide "pure" Filipino words to replace foreign words. By 1994, I think I had about 2,000 entries with about 4,000 Filipino equivalents.

My old fonts I was leafing through some of my old binders recently and found this sample sheet of all the baybayin fonts I made on my Atari computer circa 1991-92. I only converted 5 of them to other platforms after I switched to PCs and then Macs. (I should point out again that, in most cases, the font name only reflects the location that a writing sample was found. These are not distinct "alphabets" but variations in the handwriting of various individuals in different locations at different times.)

I found this article on PhilStar Global to be quite interesting mainly because I wrote most of it 10 years ago! I mean, word for word! Compare it to mine: http://www.pilipino-express.com//251-maharlika-and-the-anc (But ignore the claim "that there were at least 16 different types of writing system present around the Philippines prior to our colonization. Baybayin is just one of them..." That is just wrong. There were simply many different personal handwriting styles at the time, just like today.)
