Paul "Papa" Ackerman's cancer journey.

Hello all friends and family, Just a quick update! My dad has decided to be cremated along with not having a typical funeral. However, we will be having a memorial in his honour. The memorial will be held at the Thrive Family Church, 6005 Gateway Blvd Edmonton AB. On November 5th 2016 at 1pm. Please feel free to come and pay your respects.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Charalyn, Mel and Cavelle for the amazing dinners and help you have provided to my family. Thank you guys so much. I didn't realize how needed this act of generosity and kindness was. We are so very thankful!

Dear friends, Papa just had an appt on the 20th of April at the Cross Cancer Institute with the Chemotherapy dr. The dr did tell him that he was not a good candidate for neither chemotherapy nor radiation. He told papa that due to his pre existing health conditions (congestive heart failure, COPD RA ) that the Chemo could actually cause him to have a heart attack or develop infections with his open wounds on his legs and pass sooner. so the risks out weigh the benefits. He's... also said that at this stage (stage four) his life now is all about quality. So Patrick the kids and I are doing everything in our power to keep him happy and do everything on his "bucket list" that he would like to do. As of May 4th he will be in VEGAS BABY!! Lol. Patrick will be taking dad to Vagas to has some "Man fun" and hopefully win some money. Most importantly, they will be having a good time and making some memories. To our dear friends and family, it is with great sadness that I reveal that my dads cancer journey will be coming to an end. Unfortunately we have had recent tests done and confirmed that Papa's cancer is back and has spread to his stomach. The Dr. Has given us a rough time line of six months but of course can not be positive as to the time. He has sent dads file to the cross cancer institute in Edmonton AB and with that we will be able to see if he is a candidate for Chemoth...erapy. His opinion was that he figured he would not be a good candidate but is not a chemotherapy dr. Having said that, the choice will be up to dad and he is unsure at this point. His next move after that will be another CT scan in three months to check how quickly his cancer is spreading. His spirits are as good as can be expected and I'm sure he would love to hear from you. We are all still processing but intend to continue to live life to the fullest and have been discussing a trip out to Ontario so he can see friends and family in the near future.
