"The question of who pays is especially important during the economic crisis triggered by the pandemic: with governments already brainstorming budget cuts, public funds need to be directed to public services not subsidizing profitable companies who refuse to provide paid sick days in the middle of a pandemic." https://springmag.ca/why-and-how-the-1-denies-paid-sick-day

This box of beautiful fresh produce was just delivered to my home by a FoodShare Toronto essential worker with paid sick days and a $4/hour pandemic pay top up (consistently applied since March 2020). It's time for legislated paid sick days and fair wages for all!

My FoodShare Toronto colleagues and I are grateful for the continued support of our work. We remain committed to challenging the systems that cause and perpetuate food access inequities, working alongside community to develop community-led food infrastructure and supporting fresh food access for as many folks across the city as possible. As we enter this second lock down, we'd love your help in helping spread the word about our #GoodFoodBox to folks that may not be aware. Thanks to our amazing and dedicated essential colleagues, we're able to provide contactless delivery right across the city. If you haven't already, don't forget to check out our add on products as well. Thanks again and keep safe! https://goodfoodbox.foodshare.net

"In workplaces with few Black women, many said they often felt caught in a paradox: invisible to their managers, yet put under a microscope by peers who had stereotyped expectations of their behavior." https://www.nytimes.com//black-women-fine-dining-restauran

We're in a time that has the potential to be profoundly transformative. In the most recent Five Good Ideas session, hosted by Maytree, I share some of my thoughts on advocating for change. I hope it's useful! Check it out: https://maytree.com//five-good-ideas-about-advocating-for/

These communities should guide our conversations about how these public lands should be used now and in the future. Heather Marshall, campaigns director with the Toronto Environmental Alliance, explains, When we realize this isn’t just about golf courses, it’s about 150 hectares of public parkland and who gets to decide its future, it only makes sense to bring this forward for meaningful public consultation. http://spacing.ca//re-purposing-torontos-city-owned-golf-/

Earlier this month I was invited to the Mohawk Institute (residential school operated by the Canadian gov't until 197O) by a family personally affected by the horrors of residential schools. On #OrangeShirtDay2020 I'm reminded of the sadness as we reflected on the ongoing colonial violence inflicted on Indigenous communities. It has to stop! We can't let it continue. ... The government's action plan in response to the #MMIWG2S report has been delayed. Please get in touch with your MP and let them know that there is no more time for delays and that we demand action now.

Help our growing coalition encourage Toronto's City Council to launch a public consultation on the future of these parklands before renewing golf course operating contracts and immediately open up access for free public use during the pandemic. Super excited about this project that FoodShare Toronto is involved in. We're working with community partners and the local community to turn a hydro corridor into a space for folks to grow food and to be able to sell what they grow. Pictured is my amazing colleague Orlando, the head of FoodShare's Community Food Growing team. #FoodJustice #BetterIsPossible... https://bit.ly/3cKXhWb

New Jersey passes #climatejustice law preventing Black and brown communities from being dumping grounds. "Zoning has long favored siting these projects, which have considerable health hazards, in low-income communities and communities of color..." https://nonprofitquarterly.org/new-jersey-passes-precedent/

They promised electoral reform, nation 2 nation relationships with Indigenous peoples, pharmacare and to plant 2 billion trees. Where is electoral reform? Where is the action plan on #MMIWG? Where are the damn trees? I hope someone told the PM that WE isn’t available to plant his trees. #credibilityissue #ThroneSpeech2020

"In several cases the gains made by Canada’s richest 20 people have come at the expense of the working class, including those in frontline jobs most at risk in the pandemic." It's time to #EatTheRich! https://ricochet.media//covid-sucks-unless-youre-a-billion
