Doing some people watching today and noticed a neighbour walking their dogs and having a bit of a rough go with their golden retriever puppy. It was walking alongside their shih tzu and clearly had an agenda of its own! So I thought puppy owners everywhere could use these tips for refocusing your puppy's attention and reducing boisterous behaviour on walks:... Engage them in a 10 minute play session before your walk to help release pent up energy. Bring a stuffy/rope toy that they can carry when they feel like chewing on the leash or are nipping at your hands/feet. Bring kibble/treats along (with or without a clicker) and encourage them to walk at your side by treating when they are in the correct position alongside your leg. Change directions often to encourage their following your every move and treat when at your side, not ahead of you. Let me know if this was helpful by giving me a in the comments below and tag a puppy owner who might need this!

It might surprise you but I've dreamed of owning quite a few dog breeds! Although I plan on always rescuing my pets, I know I can make those dreams a reality if I'm patient enough. Afterall, dalmatian was at the top of my list! There's so many reasons pure bred dogs end up in rescues and shelters. Rory for instance, pictured here, found herself in a rescue at just 8 months old as the family sought safety from an abusive father and needed to surrender her as part of that plan.... My point is that you CAN find your dream dog in a rescue, you just have to be patient - it could be 3 months or a few years before you find that specific breed but it is possible! And like all pets, they'll require obedience training and structure when you do find them. Have you ever dreamed of owning a specific dog breed? Leave it in the comments I'll go first with the next one on my list!

Despite how much time COVID-19 has gifted us, we always manage to get busy! Our dogs are often the first to notice when we get preoccupied. They get accustomed to a routine for exercise, attention and activities. So what do they do when we get so busy? THEY ACT OUT!... Here’s 3 Signs your Dog’s Bored: They’re BEGGING FOR ATTENTION They’re DESTRUCTIVE They’re BARKING MORE Any of this sound familiar? Of course there’s some other nuisance behaviours that show they’re bored.Tell me your dog’s ‘go-to’ boredom signal by commenting below! We always manage to notice when they’re behaving badly but we’re so caught up in our own stuff we don’t take the time to figure out why they’re acting out. Truth be told, they’re not just being bad dogs to spite you, they’re desperately trying to get your attention and need an outlet for the stimulation they’re lacking. So remember, dogs have needs too! Next time you notice bad behaviour think about why they’re acting out. Could it be that you’ve been busy? Whatever the reason, see to it that you offer them an outlet for their pent up energy or that sign of boredom will become a habit! Watch for my upcoming post 3 Cures for your Dog’s Boredom!

I've got to apologize... To my kids for letting them watch too much Dora To my hubby for a lack of quality time To my friends for not keeping in touch or messaging you back sooner... To myself for not exercising, sleeping or eating right or showering regularly for that matter. BUT, and that's a BIG but, dreams require sacrifice! And that's what I've been working on; making my dreams reality. I'm pretty certain the last time I came on here apologizing I had just given birth to my, now 4 month old, daughter. Well this time around, I birthed an online course! In January I led a workshop on Pet-Friendly Kids at Playalatte and just over a year later I can proudly say I've developed and nutrtured that workshop into a succinctly awesome tool I like to call "Pet-friendly Kids: A Guide for Parents and Pet Owners." Apart from the personal development this course has brought me, I'm beyond excited for the new growth it can bring to society. How it can challenge the current mindset of child-friendly pets by flipping that notion on its head and reassigning the responsibility to children and people overall! Getting people to see their pets differently and truly understand how to set kids and pets up for success and bonds that will last a lifetime. Don't waste anytime, if you're a pet owner, future pet owner, parent or future parent you need this in your life! https://www.pawdoptionguide.com/petfriendlykidscourse It will only be $65 until January 1st when the price increases. Thanks in advance for your support, I can't think of a better way to celebrate my 30th birthday tomorrow! I'll be over here eating birthday cake and catching up on some zzzz's.

I know it's been incredibly quiet over here these last few months. Showing up on social media was so far from my mind with a baby on the way, toddler, full time job and multiple clients. I did my best to focus my energy where it counted most. Well, 12 days ago we welcomed our second child Naomi Frances Muir and I'm so thrilled to be on the other side of this journey.... Just feeling so blessed to have her here with us. I'm feeling reenergized and am excited to share more with you in the coming days, weeks, months and years! Here's to new beginnings

It's been just over a week since these two adopted their first dog! I'm so happy to be on this journey with them Due to #COVID19 the competition was high and the selection was small. That didn't stop us from finding 20 matches and submitting about 12 applications.... Their perseverance was worth it though! This 6 year old, Mexi-Mix found himself being rehomed by @dibsrescue and has proven to be an affectionate and loyal companion in his new forever home. Today we met for some leash and dog reactivity training and found Gushue to be a quick study! Since Gushue's owners picked the Donut Package, I'll be continuing to help ease his integration into September. Watch for more updates to come on Gushue and his family!
