It's #InternationalRabbitDay! Rabbits and hares are expert camouflagers. Both snowshoe hare and Arctic hare change colours from grey-brown to white in the Fall ...so that they will be better camouflaged in the snow during winter. Have you ever spotted one? Photo taken in Gros Morne National Park.

Parents and Guardians!! Are you tired of hearing Im bored! now that school is out for the summer? Why not bring your little ones to read to some furry friend...s?! Introducing Reading Buddies Wednesdays: a weekly program that pairs new readers with some of our adoptable animals who are all ears to listen to their stories. Our Reading Buddies program is an amazing opportunity for both people and pets. Kids get to build confidence in their reading skills by practicing with a non-judgmental buddy, and our shy or anxious animals get to have more socialization time, which increases their chances of adoption! It is truly a heartwarming sight to see! If you would like to learn more about this opportunity, and available dates, please email [email protected]. Please note that this program is not drop-in, you must register your child with our education coordinator ahead of time. We hope to see you soon!

August 13/17: There is no new information about Mack. Please continue to share. May 20/17: I know everyone is anxious for a Mack update. There has been no ...news on Mack the missing 200lb blonde therapy dog from King City. There was a large scale search to locate Mack by ground and by air, looking for any evidence of Mack. Mack was very visible through multiple media sources and a larger postering campaign. A mass mailing to all Ontario Vets was also completed. The search continued throughout the winter and since the coming of the warmer weather. The search resumes through properties in and around the area looking for any sign of this beloved family member. It is a vast area. There are obviously a few possibilities about what has happened to Mack. Without a doubt he is a gentle giant who is certified friendly through his training and it is very possible someone found and secured Mack. It is highly unusual that he disappeared so quickly virtually without a trace. Though there were many potential sightings in the last months, we could not confirm one sighting as absolutely being Mack. There has been calls from people believing they have seen Mack with someone, and calls from people knowing of large breed dogs they believe could be Mack. The majority of these have been ruled out. Someone may have found Mack and decided to keep him; they may not have considered he is a loved and wanted missing pet, or didn't care. If they did not follow the required process of notifying animal services in the area he was found, or ignored the lost postings and listings, it is possible we could now locate Mack with a renewed social media campaign. New posters are also going up. Hopefully there is someone somewhere who may have seen Mack, new to their community since January 3/17, who may not have known of Mack' s story previously. While we work through the other possibilities, I will ask everyone to please share Mack again. Please help to get Mack's story out to every corner of Ontario and beyond right now!! If someone did find Mack, we need everyone once again to help get his picture and story out there! *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** Mack is a 8 year old (senior) 200lb Irish Wolfhound and Great Dane Cross that went missing from his home near King City on January 3, 2017. He wandered away when the gate was left open due to ice on the driveway * First contact is 416-949-0344 * Anonymous info can also be called to CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) (anywhere in Ontario) * Take a picture if you can safely do so and send by pm to this group or text to the contact number Please DO NOT POST INFO ONLINE Animal control agencies, rail lines, police, vets and the larger lost pet networks are all aware of Mack. Please keep all calls to the contact numer limited to sightings or urgent info only. We thank everyone for the well wishes and keeping Mack in their thoughts. Please feel free to use this page to send messages of encouragement to the family. Thank you to everyone for continuing to watch for MACK! Maureen Häni Laura McKibbon Caron Linda Kathryn

Happy? Sad? Mad? You can tell a lot about what your rabbit is feeling from their body language. Here's a poster explaining ear direction, posture and locomotion.... You can find out more about bunny behaviour and body language in my book Understanding Rabbit's Habits available on my website here: http://www.therabbithouse.com/behaviour/ or Amazon: http://amzn.to/2r15NLj

Today is #WorldVeterinaryDay! World Veterinary Day, is a day created by the World Veterinarian Association (WVA) to highlight the contributions made by Veterin...arians worldwide to animal health, animal welfare, food safety, food security and public health. The role of a Veterinarian is a noble one. They enter the field with the selfless goal of caring for animals and speak for those who cant speak for themselves. The work of a Vet also goes way beyond simply just caring for animals. They provide compassion and care not only to animals, but to the owners as well. The world is an interconnected eco-system, so as animal healthcare becomes increasingly intertwined with human healthcare, their knowledge and services are needed now more than ever. Veterinarians here at The Toronto Humane Society are a major reason for our success and we are lucky enough to be able to employ 8 full-time and 5 part-time vets. Vets are the backbone of the shelter and we could not make a difference in the lives of animals without them. Our Vets dedicate countless amounts of time and energy into saving and improving the lives of animals, going above and beyond the call of duty. Long days are par for the course for Vets and we appreciate all that they do for our furry friends! Wed like to extend a huge thank you to all of our Vets for the impact they make on the lives of animals and helping make The Toronto Humane Society a first class shelter. Be sure to thank your Vet today!

Meet our handsome senior Oso! #THSAdoptableAnimal If ever there was a teddy bear of a dog, it is this sweet, gentle 10 year old soul. Oso (whose name means be...ar in Spanish) is a shy, loving boy who wants nothing more than the pleasure of your company -- as much as you can give! Oso's idea of happiness is finding a person or a family with a stay-at-home lifestyle, where he can hang out with them peacefully all day. He is s gentle boy and an easy keeper. At 10, he still has plenty of pep, but can be nervous of urban scenarios -- he would rather ramble and play fetch in a big fenced yard in a quiet environment. If theres another dog or kids in the picture, even better for this charming homebody. Oso is a true social butterfly and feels more confident and settled with the company of another dog. Just wait till he gives your leg a hug with his paw (you'll have to see it to believe it!). If Oso could be the perfect fit for your family, please come on by the Toronto Humane Society or send us an email at [email protected]!
