Steps to Sexual Health is a 10 session series facilitated by our mentors. It is offered individually in a safe and confidential setting. It is a comprehensive approach for dealing with sexual trauma, sexual abuse, and sexual misuse. This series is aimed at helping women find healing from their past. I thought having an abortion was the right decision, but now I feel this unexpected grief and loss. Why do I feel this way? Having an abortion can trigger many emotions. For some women, this comes out as feelings of grief or even depression. I’ve been really stressed out lately and finding it hard to eat because I’m so nauseous. I am tired all the time and feeling a bit overwhelmed. I thought I was just stressed but I think I might be pregnant. How do I find out for sure? If you think you might be pregnant but are uncertain of the next step, come and see us. This week we had a client express to us the gratitude she felt in being able to come to a safe place to sit and talk. When she found out she was unexpectedly pregnant, she wasn’t sure where to go to find the information she needed. Through a friend’s referral, she was able to come and talk to our support workers and receive information about her options. Having a healthy baby begins with making wholesome choices even before baby is born! Have you, or has someone you know, undergone an abortion procedure? The choice to abort is never easy, and you are not alone. While each woman has a different experience during and following a termination of pregnancy, some women experience negative feelings after their procedure. Some of the feelings that women have reported feeling after an abortion are: Feelings of sadness, depression or emotional numbing - Guilt or shame associated with the abortion - Anxiety or fea...rfulness - Nightmares or flashbacks Here’s what one woman shared: The reality of symptoms (that I’ve been ashamed of) being discussed openly as reasonable reactions to abortion is new and refreshing. The goal of our Living in Colour program is to restore faith and trust in yourself and discover a peace you may looking for.
