For the month of April 2021, our staff member Aman Chahal and volunteer Harman Gill have been selected as recipients of our monthly recognition award for their outstanding efforts. Last month was a busy time at PCHS with many moving parts, both these spectacular ladies were valuable in our successes. On behalf of the entire team of PCHS Calgary, we sincerely appreciate your contributions. Aman shined during our Anti-Bullying campaign with her informative video and following media appearances which have helped provide important education and awareness to our community. Harman has been such a committed volunteer and as demands rise, so does Harman, assisting with so many functions that are imperative to PCHS’s success. Mental Health Awareness Week here we would focus on ourselves, what is going around us, what are the factors impeding our progress and growth, how to overcome these barriers and what is conducive to attain our purpose of personal well being. The task is big and can’t be done on individual level. Therefore it essentially requires involvement of others so as to benefit from experiences and thoughts of each other. Besides this, the community available resources can be fully utilized to get optimum benefits of getting ourselves peaceful, calm and stress free #PCHSCalgary #Mentalhealthweek #Communitysupport

It’s Family Violence Awareness Month, although Alberta has the third-highest rate of self-reported spousal violence among Canadian provinces, family violence is still preventable. This month is focused on increasing awareness and prevention strategies surrounding family violence and to provide support/resources to those in need. This is a time where we all need to come together to end family violence and promote healthier relationships. #PCHSCalgary #FamilyViolence #Awareness #Support

REGISTER TODAY THROUGH LINK BELOW We all know that the phrase ‘One size fits all’ is not always trueespecially when it comes to mental health. The South Asian community is open to seeking mental health services, however, we need to be understood and not blanketed with solutions from mainstream mental health services that may be unaware of the cultural underbelly of where issues could be stemming from. So often, strategies offered are not a practical option for clients based on culture. It’s time to ‘Say It Like It Is’ and create solutions to save lives. REGISTER TODAY THROUGH LINK BELOW! The South Asian community has been in Alberta since the early 1900’s and have been a growing population ever since. This community represents approximately 10% of Calgary and is a significant population demographic nationwide. South Asian’s are underrepresented in mental health campaigns, not only within our own community, but for mainstream service providers as well. It is time to come together as mental health professionals and learn about the history, unique differences and social considerations in supporting mental health to the South Asian group. Join us on December 10, 2020 ONLINE for this very important discussion. https://hopin.to/events/say-it-like-it-is
