Plant Closures

With the recent announcement of the GM Oshawa Plant, Ontario and Canada in general are seeing a rapid degeneration in the traditional manufacturing sector. As deindustrialization and globalization continue to wreak havoc on small and mid-sized Ontario cities, there is a call for applicable research on the effects these closures will have on the local economy and ex-workers. PCLIP is a collaborative effort by researchers from Ontario and Michigan who are pursuing to understand the socio-economic impacts of plant closures on communities, as well as responses to the closure by those affected, the local government, and provincial/state governments.
