A bit of an adjustment to the current playing restrictions.
Over the weekend some of our U8 Pirates team had a festival holiday Skill and Drill practice. And a Volunteer Dad, Scott Grimmer, dressed in a Santa hat and super vintage Goalie pads. The kids had a great time taking shots on him this morning!
It's definitely been a different year with Covid and everything. What might things look like in the future? Here's a little article we found that touches on a few of those questions.
Your Pirate looking for some at home drills to try while games have been cancelled. Here is a little video of a drill that doesn't require a lot of space.
Wishing everyone a Happy Diwali!! May light push away the darkness in your lives!
Unfortunately no tournaments this year but we're sure most hockey parents can relate.
This week we're wanting to thank all those that step up and ref our games. We wouldn't be able to have games without you. And for those at home or outside watching the games here are some visuals to go with the penalties being called.
Wishing everyone a Happy Kwanzaa!!
If you child is like mine, those skates you bought last year, or even last month are getting a little tight. Here are some tips when looking for new skates.
As you may have heard hockey has returned to Phase 2 Protocol of the ViaSport Return to Play Plan. This means effective immediately all games have been cancelled until further notice. Youth indoor sports may continue but only if following the Phase 2 protocols with a focus on skill development. ALL adult, including U21(Juvenile) activities have been canceled. There is one change in regards to the Phase 2 protocols. The 2 metre distance between participants has now been increased to 3 metres. Below is the link to the BC Hockey update. https://myemail.constantcontact.com/Public-Health-Order-Upd As always the Covid situation is constantly changing and we will pass on any information as we receive it.
Dear PoCo Pirates Family, As you know, the daily count of COVID-19 infections has been increasing since we started the season in September. Port Coquitlam Minor Hockey Association takes the concerns around the safety of all our members seriously and we choose to err on the side of caution when it comes to protecting our members and their families. With consultation with ViaSports, BC Hockey, Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association, and the City of Port Coquitlam, we would l...ike to let our members know that we are implementing Phase 2 of Return to Hockey and additional safety protocols until further notice: Starting November 12, we are resuming hockey operations in Phase 2 of Return to Hockey as outlined on our website. Coaches and team officials will continue to wear face masks when not on ice and follow Phase 2 of Return to Hockey on ice. Players to continue to wear face masks when entering the arena until they put their helmets on and when leaving the arena. Players to sit 6 feet apart when getting ready on the bleachers and to use both benches to stay physically distanced. Coaches and players should continue to remain 6 feet apart when on ice. Teams to hold practices with focus on development. No games/scrimmages of any lengths are permitted. Spectators are not permitted in Port Coquitlam Community Centre arenas. Parents to adhere to physical distancing measures when waiting outside and wear a face mask when physical distancing cannot be maintained. We are implementing these changes with focus on the health and safety of our members. Let’s all do our parts to get back to Phase 3 of Return to Hockey. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Sincerely, PCMHA, Executive Officers
We know that spectators aren't allowed in the rink but still want everyone to remember that Sportsmanship Starts in the Stands or Parking Lot these days.
A little update from Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association and BC Hockey. This is just a FYI since it won't affect our members but may affect some in Academy or Zone Programs.
Here is the latest from ViaSport and BC Hockey. Everyone will be updated once more information is brought forth.
Here is an update from the PCAHA after today’s announcement from Dr. Henry. Like it says more info to follow.
From our family to yours. Merry Christmas!!!
A message from Bill Greene, Chairman of BC Hockey.
A couple big Poco Pirates fans wishing everyone a Happy First Day of Winter!
A little poster for those little Pirate boys. Christmas gift??
Today is the start of the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association mandated two week Christmas break. Yes, we know that we’ve kinda been on a break for a while now but for a lot of hockey families no tournaments over Christmas and New Year is a new thing. Take the time to enjoy this time of year with the family. UPDATE: If your team is schedule to practice this weekend. Check with you team as some ice times are still on.
We're brewing it again...This time for Christmas we're going North...no not that north. In the New Year we will be collaborating with Northpaw Brewing on the Northside of PoCo. To make matters better, they will be producing a Lager AND a Pale Ale. More info coming soon.
Just listen to the sound of the ice. Pretty cool...but not something we’d recommend locally.
Happy Hanukkah to all those Jewish Pirate families out there! May love and light fill your home and heart at Hanukkah.
A little something to keep in mind.
Kruger Products have developed a new initiative, the ‘Kruger Big Assist’, to help hockey families during what has been a challenging year for many across the country. The Big Assist will donate over $150,000 by awarding $10,000 to 15 different Canadian minor hockey associations to help offset playing costs for families in need of financial assistance. HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Volunteers, coaches, parents, and players are all encouraged to visit bigassist.ca to nominate their loca...l minor hockey association and highlight why this association is deserving of the $10,000 donation. The simple entry mechanism requires a brief written description (or video) of how an association demonstrates the following criteria: Enables youth to play Enhances the sport experience for members Empowers youth to create an impact in the community Encourages multicultural participation in the game Nominations for the first set of 10 winners will be accepted until January 31, 2021, with winners announced in February 2021. As a Canadian company, Kruger understands how important hockey is to kids, families and communities across this country, and this program is a way to give back and help keep kids on the ice. As mentioned, please visit bigassist.ca for further details on how the program works, submission requirements and more. Kruger Products #bigassist #Pirateshockey

FYI for anyone who was planning on heading over today.
Hockey players are a different breed. Still remember when this happened.
Not to scare anyone this Halloween evening, but it's a full moon and clocks get set back an hour tonight. Don't forget or you might be a practice a bit early, when you could be sleeping.
Wishing all of our Pirates a safe and fun Halloween.
Happy Hockey Halloween!!!!
School is back, kind of, and hockey is back. How do you juggle both?
