So, a few years back we had a client come to us with a project... He'd salvaged some material from a heritage home in Vancouver that his sister had purchased. Prior to the demo of the whole home, he tore out the "stuff" you see in the first picture. He'd neglected to take pictures of the original, built-in china cabinet, but left the final design in our hands with one caveat.. he needed it to A) fit in the space he had created for it in his new home in Red Deer, and B) it had... to be "removable" (should he decide to move) The second picture is what we created for him. We re-used the original lead glass doors, drawers and even the original cut glass mirror! (note, the deep red Cherry stain was to match his existing flooring in the new home). A fun project that really challenged our design and fabrication skills, but came out awesome in the end!! Oh, and the complete unit is fastened with 2 screws and can be removed very easily!

The first story we'd like to share comes from central Alberta. Our customer was renovating her kitchen in a '70s farmhouse. After giving her advise and guidance on how to refurbish her original kitchen cabinets, she asked if there was some way we could incorporate some material from the original log cabin (still standing on the homestead) into her new kitchen. We did a site visit and saw that the majority of the cabin was still sound. In fact, there was still kerf cuts in the... original timbers that had delineated the sawyer's depth as to how deep to hew the timber! We thought this would be a great way to showcase some Alberta history so we had the owner harvest a few logs from the wall and sent them to a local sawyer. We asked him to protect the original face and mill some slabs to our required thickness. Once we had the freshly harvests planks in the shop, we began to create a tabletop for the new island.By the time we had finished, we had an entire island, matching the customers original cabinets, with a gorgeous table top made from logs harvested from their own vintage log cabin (complete with original face patina and kerf cuts!) Such a fun project and so satisfying to see history come back to bless us in another time period! See more
