Documentary ***CAUTION*** - The documentary is intended for adults and not recommended for youth under 16. Description: Pornography is now a multibillion-dollar industry and one of the primary ways kids learn about sex, gender, power, and pleasure. Yet discussions about porn in the mainstream have tended to focus narrowly on moral issues rather than the pornography industry’s power as a pedagogical and cultural force. With their clear-eyed film Over 18, filmmakers Jared and Michelle Brock force us to confront these larger issues. Content: How pornography has - radically changed from the print with the rise of the internet. - has impacted young people, parents, and porn actors, - Why kids, in particular, are susceptible to porn addiction. The film interviews with porn producers, ex-porn actors, and scholars, and highlights the story of Joseph, a 13-year-old boy from Winnipeg who is recovering from a porn addiction that began when he was nine years old. The strategy is to first equip parents (Building Family Connections) to begin the conversation with their children and youth. In the New Year the church will provide the tested and proven sexual risk avoidance program, Heritage Keepers, for all church and community youth, ages 10 to 17. Response to last week's first module, "God's Design for Sex" was most positive, with parents asking if they can invite others to attend, and when if they can share the video with their children.
