Peace Country Ringette would love to send a top of the mountain SHOUT OUT to our coaches from past and present: Coach Meagan, Coach Tracey, Coach Alysha, Coach Mike, Coach Paula, Coach Cory, Coach Bernice, Coach Carly, Coach Ashley and Coach Maddie for setting aside time from their busy schedule to be at the rink twice a week. Without you, we would not have Peace Country Ringette. Our coaches have played ringette as youths and continue to play as adults, coach other ringette ...teams, or have a child in the sport. The coaches love they are helping youth learn a new sport, knowing the skills they teach are more than sport specific, they are a huge building block to a full and healthy lifestyle. The tough part about coaching in Covid-19 is not being able to interact with players as they would like, feeling that over the season skills might not be learned as well as "normal" years. FRIENDLY REMINDER even if we are heading into the second skate. Parents pull out the gear and try it on before your child's first day. Get those skates sharpened and properly fitted... Label your child's gear and water bottle Measure stick with child on skates - should be no higher then under their armpit Check helmet straps, screws and fit (Adjust accordingly) Plenty of hockey tape Keep hand sanitizer and wipes in the bag All players are required to wear the listed equipment in the diagram! Of course, it is a litt...le difficult to practice your passing off of the ice unless you have access to a gymnasium floor. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t practice the fundamentals in your basement! When making a good pass (forehand or backhand) there are a few things to remember - I have highlighted those things with a red pen in the picture. 1. Keep your knees bent - this is important in any ringette skill. Having your knees bent means you have better balance and better control 2. Make sure you are looking at the person you are passing to, not down at the ring. 3. Make sure your hands are in the correct position on your stick, not too far apart and not too close together. If you need a reference, your bottom hand should be about a forearms length away from your top hand. 4. When you release the ring, point your stick directly where you want it to go. When receiving a ring, imagine a bullseye right it the centre of it and aim for that when your stabbing. Remember the most important part of a good pass is accuracy! Inaccurate passes are tough to catch and might allow the other team to steal the ring away.
