One can never full understand the complications of a positive COVID-19 test especially when you have young children to care for. . I’ve thought through how it would impact our family and I found it really helpful to further wrap my head around it when I read the blog post from Mallory Whitmore with @slumberpod about her first-hand experience as a parent with COVID-19. Here is a snippet-... And while we are smart, thoughtful people, we were totally unprepared for the reality of a month-long quarantine with two young children while ill. Here’s the thing It’s easy enough (if you’re young and healthy) to believe that maybe you’ve already had COVID-19 and were asymptomatic, or that you simply won’t contract COVID-19 if you’re being careful, or that if you do catch it that you’ll have mild symptoms that won’t disrupt your life. I fell into this trap and encourage you not to! The struggle would be immense! HOT WEATHER & SLEEP . While the ideal temperature for sleep is around 21 degrees C. That’s not always attainable on hot summer nights. A little one who is too warm will struggle falling asleep and staying asleep. Here are a few tips to beat the heat and get some sleep. . Dress your little in lighter pyjamas or just a diaper.... -Use a lighter TOG sleep sack and dress your little in a diaper and short sleeved top underneath. Same goes for a swaddle blanket. Opt for lighter blankets or just use a sheet for older kids. Use a fan (or Air conditioning) Set up a safe sleep space in your basement where it’s cooler. Try a slightly cooler bath before bed. . . We often retreat into the basement to sleep where it’s cooler. It took some prep work to get the room set up to be nice a dark and a couple of sleeps for our little guy to get used to it but now he can easily change back and forth between his own room and room sharing with us in the spare room on the extra hot nights. . . #sleephelp #sleeptips #parenthood #boymom #postpartumsupport #preschoolersleep #toddlersleep #babysleep #babysleephelp #sleepingbaby #yycsleepcoach #yycsleepconsultant #yycmoms #summernights #yegmoms #yxemoms #yqrmom #yvrmoms #ylwmoms #instanap #infantsleep #sleeptraining See more

I get this question often.. I can’t tell you when your going to feel like it’s the right time, but I can tell you the wrong time to start sleep training. Your child’s age is the biggest factor on sleep training success and any time before 4 months is the wrong time and honestly until babies are over 6 months we still see a lot of developmental changes majorly impacting sleep. . When ask, should I sleep train my baby? My answer is ALWAYS- if something is working for yo...u and your baby keep doing it until it’s not working for you anymore... We have to do what’s right for our family, our sanity, our mental health. Sometimes that’s just barely coping and other times it’s thriving. . If something isn’t working with how your child is sleeping this is the perfect opportunity to learn about the changes you can make (and how to make them) without breaking the bank! . Come and check out this virtual session offered through the @moss_postpartum_house and learn some strategies you can put into place right away, (without leaving your baby to cry-it-out) . . Sleep interruptions (regressions) are typically related to gross motor skill development we often see these regressions in sleep peak before your baby masters a new skill. Why you might wonder? Because your baby is practicing in her sleep! Thankfully once she’s mastered it, she won’t need the practice at night anymore. Here are the common gross motor skills in the first year of life and the ages when you can roughly expect them. Remember, each baby develops at her own pac...e. If your baby isn’t hitting these milestones and your doctor isn’t concerned, don’t worry! Rolling- Around 4-5 monthsSitting Around 6 monthsCrawling Around 7 months Pulling to standing Around 8 months Cruising Around 10 monthsWalking Around 12 months (but as early as 9 months for some) So how can you help? Practice (while awake) makes perfect (sleep). If you know your baby is learning something new, give him lots of opportunities to practice during the day. Tummy time is great for learning to roll and arranging furniture for cruising can help with walking. Help your newly toddling toddler practice falling down on his bum from standing so he won’t get stuck in the night. Practice and muscle memory goes a long way! . .
